My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  September thru December is my favorite time of the year and I have to say the 'bers' were very good this year.  We enjoyed all four of the months with celebrating each day and making memories. For me, January is a slow month, mainly hunkering down reflecting on life. Now that Christmas is over, I'm looking towards 2025. We never know what a year will bring but I have to have faith and hope that it will be good.  Otherwise, honestly, what's the point?

Where I've been:  We went to breakfast yesterday and picked up a few things we wanted while we were out.  We stopped by the library but forgot it was Saturday, so they weren't open yet.  Other than that, we've been at home enjoying no schedule or routine and enjoying every minute of it.

Where I'm going:  I have no plans to leave the house until I go back to work on Thursday.  Most of administration will still be on holiday so I'll hopefully be able to get caught up on emails and do payroll.  I figured working two days, then having two days off would be better than taking two full weeks off and sending my body into shock with a full week of work. 😃

What I'm watching:  SO many Christmas movies.  We also watched the season finally of Villans.

What I'm reading:  I finished The Bookshop of Hidden Dreams and loved it.  Then I started Wintering by Katherine May.  I got to page 13 and put it down.  I've been looking forward to reading this but honestly, she comes across as a bit whiney and depressing so far and I don't know if I can finish.  Has anyone else read this?  Does it get better?

What I'm eating:
Hot ham and Havarti cheese on brioche buns with a loaded baked potato
Stuffed shells, salad and puff pastry pesto bread.

Instead of regular jumbo shells I picked up a bag of these.  The extra piece of pasta across the top actually holds them together very well after stuffing with the cheese mixture.  You do need to cook them a few minutes more because the pasta is thick, but they were delicious.

Bone in turkey breast, cornbread stuffing, roasted parm Brussel sprouts, roasted carrots, orange cranberry sauce and yeast rolls.
Cornbread stuffing waffles with turkey and gravy and veggies on the side
Beef chili with garlic cheddar biscuits
BIG salad
Tonight, I'm making Moroccan lamb meatballs, rice and Naan.

Who needs a good slap:  On pause for the Holiday.

What is making me smile:  So many smiles this week.  I've felt very blessed. I did realize how little I usually just sit when I'm home.  Binx took full advantage of the slow week and curled up to me each day as I sat on the couch reading or watching movies.  He enjoys it so much I have to work on making the time to sit with him a bit each day.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

  1. Of course I like the cat best, but the pasta is a close second.

  2. So much good food! I need to decide what to have for New Years as my son’s family is coming over for the OSU game. My husband and I usually have crab legs and champagne on NYE.

I’m so glad you have a nice final quarter of the year. January is a tough month, both weather-wise and a lot of paperwork. Starting the job of gathering info for ours and my mother’s taxes, as well as a filing cabinet purge. But it’s satisfying when accomplished!

    1. I haven't decided what we're having for the NY holiday either. I have a few things rolling around. When we lived in Florida we always had crab legs for NYE with our group of friends. I miss those days sometimes. I have a lot of paperwork and an office to clean in January too. I want to get it done for taxes and Spring.

  3. As a kid I liked that my birthday was in January so anything I didn''t get at would be asked then. lol Now January is non-stop rain and grown up misery. Oh, to be a kid again!

    1. That was a good plan. Adulthood is different, isn't it?

  4. I've just started The Bookshop of Hidden Dreams and am still on the first chapter so can't say much about it. On the other hand I really enjoyed Wintering but then I have an odd taste in books. I admit she comes off as whiney but I think that was depression talking. I don't know, I actually like it, but then as I say, I'm odd!

    1. I really need to take more time to sit because he really enjoyed his nap there. It's supposed to get really cold here so I see a lot of soup in our future.

    1. The week between Christmas and NY is the best time to take off. I haven't felt rushed to get anything done and it's been glorious just being home. Three days left and I plan to enjoy them to the fullest.

  7. Binx makes me wish I could have another cat, but not with the traveling I plan on doing this year. Please take this time to rest and relax. I expect things to be quite batty in roughly three weeks.

  8. I am happy you and Binx had some good snuggle time while you were off work.
Like you, I really do enjoy the "ber" months. September can be a little dicey here though because it is still so blooming hot even though the pace of the month changes.
A special thanks for the card. I got about half of mine done than just never finished the rest. It will not happen again!

    1. Unfortunately, September and even October can still be pretty warm here too now. I realized this week how little I spend in our living room and especially sitting down for a while. I plan on doing it a bit more. I'm glad you received my card, and I hope you're feeling better.

  9. Isn't time off the best? Personally I have had so much time off I don't want to return to work!

  10. I’ve never seen that pasta before, but I really like the looks of it. I’m going to have to check that out because it seems like it would make stuffing shells much easier. Happy new year! I wish you the best in 2025

    1. This is the first time I've tried it and YES, it makes stuffing the shells so much easier and they hold together. Wishing you a very happy and healthy New Year!!
