In Sunday's post I mentioned the amazing sandwich I picked up from this cute Farm Market a few weeks ago. I told the owner, that this was the most delicious white sandwich bread I had ever tasted. So we started talking about breads, dough, etc. I told her I made all of our breads and I was very happy with them all except the sandwich bread recipes I had tried which were good but not amazing. We finished our conversation and right before I left she handed me a piece of paper with her recipe for the bread. How sweet was that?
It's funny how food can bring people together isn't it?
I tried her recipe two days later and it tasted exactly like the one she made and TBG loved it. I've made it twice now and it's safe to say this is our new go to sandwich bread.
Ingredients:
1 cup warm water
1/3 cup sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons or one packet of yeast
3 cups of all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 Tablespoons of oil
1 1/2 Tablespoon melted butter to brush on as soon as it comes out of the oven
Directions:
Stir together the water, sugar and yeast and set aside for 5-10 minutes until it bubbles
In a large bowl add the flour, salt and oil, then pour in the yeast mixture. Mix together until the dough no longer sticks to the side of the bowl, about 10 minutes. I used my Kitchen Aide with the dough hook but she said it easily comes together by hand as well.
Roll into a tight ball and place in a greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside to double in size. About 60-90 minutes.
Deflate the dough and shape into a log to fit a 9x5 loaf pan. Cover with plastic wrap again and set aside for another 60 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350F and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
Brush the crust with melted butter and let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes then remove and transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Slice to your desired thickness and enjoy.
That’s great that it turned out the same as hers! I’ve tried making bread numerous times and it never seems to rise the correct amount. Have tried every yeast out there. I just suck at bread making!
ReplyDeleteI put mine in a cold over to rise to avoid any drafts. In the winter when it's cold, I turn the light on. It seems to do the trick.
DeleteI am going to make this when I get to my daughters! But will reduce sugar a little.
ReplyDeleteYou'll enjoy it.
DeleteThanks for sharing this. Bookmarking to make it later
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Deletei am not a bread baker so i admire those who do!
ReplyDeleteWith all you do, I'm surprised you don't make bread. I
DeleteI have made overnight in the fridge no-knead bread a few times :)
DeleteI'm in cooking mode at the moment so I will definitely give that a try. When I take care of my grandson I always take over dinner for when the kids get back from work - will try this for the next time!
ReplyDeleteWe enjoy it. I've even used it for regular toast and Texas toast and it's a winner.
DeleteThanks. I shared this post to my Facebook page so I wouldn't forget about it. I've never made bread before but I think I might just give it a try.
ReplyDeleteIt's very simple and once you have made bread, you'll never want store bought again.
DeleteI bet that would make wonderful French toast if sliced thick.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried it yet but it would!
DeleteThanks for the recipe. I am always looking for good bread recipes to try!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome. It's a really good sandwich bread.
DeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!
DeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to making it. :)
I am so wanting a quiet weekend when I can finally try making bread again.
ReplyDeleteOoh yum. I have never made bread.
ReplyDeleteI love that she gave you her formula. And that it worked! Hot dog.
ReplyDeleteSo nice that she gave you the recipe and even nicer that it tasted just like hers!! Thanks for sharing it..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful recipe. I would try this. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Lori~ That recipe looks delicious! I make bread every other week, and this one will definitely be one that I will try. Thanks for sharing... :0) Hugs, Barb
ReplyDeleteHi Barb. You are welcome. I hope you enjoy it.
DeleteI haven’t made bread in a long time. I used to make it a lot using the bread machine to make the dough. Unfortunately, my bread machine gave up the ghost. I bought a new one, but it was so complicated. I never used it.
ReplyDeleteI use my stand mixer for the dough. It works out really well.
DeleteThe bread recipe sounds great, a lot like my no-knead recipe but with way more sugar! I wonder how it would do without so much? But I will definitely be trying this! Thanks friend ... xoxo
ReplyDeleteI've cut the sugar by half and it turns out just as good. I'd never seen a bread recipe have so much sugar. I made it the original way first but then cut it down and I really couldn't tell a difference.
