This is so very true.
What's top of my mind: It's only 10am here and I've managed to accomplish quite a bit. And that was even with Binx following me around every. single. step. (He's napping now) I have beef tips cooking in the crock pot for dinner tonight. I have a pumpkin pie in the oven. I put in probably my last batch of cotton candy onions into the dehydrator. I like to have a large jar around for soups, stews, roasts and different varieties of chili. They are so delicious. I straightened out the freezer and took a quick inventory. I have green beans, blueberries, jalapeno peppers, bell peppers, various berries and so much more ready for the fall/winter and I'm almost out of room. I think the rest of the bell peppers are going to get dehydrated.
Where I've been: Mon-Wed I was at work and home. Thursday TBG and I went to a rare weekday lunch at El Rancherito Salem and Mount Vernon The food was delicious, and we were surprised when the waiter came and picked up our ticket saying it was paid for. A couple we know were eating there also and left before we did. They were sweet and picked up our check too. It was a reminder there are still good people in the world. Friday, I went to the farmer's market. I had on a t-shirt that says, 'weekend mode' and a Mennonite farmer friend asked what that means. I told him it was a time to relax with no commitments to your employer. His wife laughed but he looked a bit confused because they have an entirely different life than most of us Englishers here in the US.
Were I'm going: I'll be working M-F and we don't have any commitments or appointments so it will be time at home which I love. Next weekend is our Fall Festival downtown near the Commons. I hope we have decent weather because I always enjoy walking around seeing friends, different vendors (supposedly 100 this year) and listening to the music. TBG will have his students doing a demonstration which is always fun to watch. I don't know if we'll stay for the parade because it is always SO long, but we may see some of it.
What I'm watching: I was sorting through a number of books, paperwork, and various items to purge a few afternoons this week, so I watched a few movies while doing it. On Netflix I watched The Wrong Paris (a sweet, feel-good movie), Unknown Number (this is unbelievable) Wedding Season (very funny) and on Syfy I watched Winchester a 2018 movie and I found it very interesting. According to wiki -"Winchester (also known as Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built) is a 2018 supernatural horror film directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, and written by the Spierigs and Tom Vaughan. The film stars Helen Mirren as heiress Sarah Winchester, with Jason Clarke and Sarah Snook, and follows Winchester as she is haunted by spirits inside her San Jose mansion in 1906." I now want to read more about Sarah Winchester. She seems to have been a very interesting woman.
Didn't read this week.😔
Pasta and meatballs with a salad and garlic cheese biscuit. ( I put one good size serving in the freezer for lunch one day next week. The leftover meatballs and sauce are going to be made into calzones for Sunday's dinner with a salad.)
I've never heard of cotton Candy onions, they sound very intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI really would like to get a dehydrator.
The plants are Sedum. We have some just like that and they are wonderful and so pretty in the Fall.
Cotton candy onions are the perfect level of sweet in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI bought a Ninja 13 in 1 a couple of years ago and it has the dehydrator setting along with so much more. It's great to dehydrate veggies and herbs.
Yes, it is a variety of sedum. I'm waiting for the first frost to plant butterfly milkweed and then I have red summer glory sedum seeds to plant next spring. I want at least part of our back yard to be a bee and butterfly haven.
I LOVE a big salad and yet, go through phases with making them. Not sure why. Lately it's been soup for one in the mini instapot. So good. I mean, not as good as maybe a long slow soup, but for the day of getting stuff done, tossing in a soup, it's killer good.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen any of the NetFlix stuff you mentioned. We started Wednesday and will likely finish her soon.
We eat a lot of salads, big and small. It's the easiest way to get in a LOT of veggies each day, especially for TBG.

DeleteWhat a wonderful surprise to have your meal paid for! I am definitely going to do that sometime just to make someone's day brighter!
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice surprise. We enjoy doing that sometimes too.
DeleteThat was a lovely gesture of that couple to pay for your lunch. So there are good people around even though it sometimes doesn't seem that way! And it can't have been a bad week if no-one needed a slap!
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice surprise. I agree with Anne, there are more good people than not so good.
DeleteHow wonderful to have someone pay for your lunch, Personally I think they are o many more good people than ones who are no so good.
ReplyDeleteYour dinners look delicious.
I completely agree, there are more good people than not so good. The not so good just stand out more sometimes.
DeleteWhat a great idea dehydrating the onions. That fall fest sounds like fun. I enjoy things like that.
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice of your friends to pay for your meal.
I like to do onions, peppers and mushrooms to have on hand for fall and winter comfort food like soups and stews or anything in the crockpot. The fall festival is fun and yes, I love things like this too. It was very nice.
DeleteGosh all your meals sound good. I would love to live in a small town, with local activities and just walking about.
ReplyDeleteThe Winchester home is indeed interesting. I have seen many a show on her and the home - find it all fascinating!
How sweet of your friends to pay for your meal.
have a good one.
Thank you, Cheryl. I do love living in a small town and I really wasn't sure I would when we first moved here. This is the first small town I've lived in.
DeleteI found the Winchester story and Sarah very interesting. I want to know more.
It was a nice surprise. Enjoy your Sunday.
Hope you had a lovely weekend. We tried to have a quiet one as we have been super busy this past month. Even in retirement, i look forward to the weekend! :)

DeleteI gained some weight back due to my recent trips, so for now I'll have to live vicariously through you when it comes to most culinary delights. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteYou have been eating very well. It all looks so delicious.
DeleteAll the food looks so good and the purple plant in the last picture is so pretty. It will look great when it takes over that whole area. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I am really hoping it takes over and covers the entire space. It is gorgeous and the bees and butterflies love it. That space has been a real pain to deal with. I hope you have a good week also!!
DeleteHas anyone ever told you? You have a lovely life!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim. But I do have ups and downs, bad and good like we all do.
DeleteI love mornings that I get up early, have a plan, and get a lot done all in the morning. You really did a lot!! I'm looking for a light feel good movie- I'll The Wrong Paris- thanks.I love plants that come back and spread every year. I had some yellow ones someone gave me 5 years ago and the look so beautiful. All you food looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteHi Judee. Yes I love mornings like that too. I can get so much done in just a couple of hours first thing in the morning. The Wrong Paris is a cute light feel good movie that I think you will like.
DeleteHave never heard of cotton candy onions...how interesting! You had a very delicious week.
ReplyDeleteThey are really good. Just a bit sweeter than regular onions.
DeleteMmm all your meals looks so good. Nice of the couple to foot the bill. Kindness still exists.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Yes, there is still a lot of kindness in the world.
DeleteLove, love quiet mornings where you can get up, enjoy the morning and get so much done. Thanks for sharing your week with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by.
DeleteI have never heard of cotton candy onions, but boy have I heard a lot about that Unknown Number. CRAZY!!! I'm surprised the Mennonite even asked you about your t-shirt. When we go to Amish Country in Ohio, they are generally not very friendly. Though the Amish are much more strict than the Mennonites.
ReplyDeleteCotton candy onions are just a bit sweeter than regular. Yes, Unknown Number was absolutely crazy. I've known them for many years now so I guess he was curious and felt comfortable asking me.
DeleteGhosts! It's getting to be that time of year!!
ReplyDeleteYes it is.
