My Week

Our taste of fall weather has turned back to summer weather with lows in high 60's and highs in the high 90's this week but that was expected.  At least the humidity is lower which makes a huge difference.  We really need rain in our area as we're in the extreme drought phase and it shows.  TBG hasn't had to mow in 3-4 weeks because the grass just isn't growing which he appreciates since there still is so much to do around the yard this time of year.

TBG ordered two large mums from the Church fundraiser, and they will be here this week.  I used to do a display in the front yard with a few hay bales, mums, pumpkins and fall decorations.  That can't happen anymore because of the huge deer population so they'll have to go in the back yard.  I miss having the front decorated but they always ruin it now.

I did stop by Kroger this week because they had really good sales on a lot of things we use regularly, and I had a lot of coupons too.  I spent 100.68 and saved 60.89.  The Jeep was close to empty which I don't usually let happen, but it was nice to get .40 off gas making it 2.79 a gallon to fill it up.  Yesterday I used a digital coupon for a Domino's pizza for lunch.  I paid 3.59 for the pizza and the garlic butter so that was a good price for lunch and leftovers.  Plus, it tasted better than it normally does.

I finally had a chance to watch Are You There God, It's Me Margaret on Netflix.  It was a cute movie adaptation from the book.  I didn't read the book growing up, but I had heard of it. We also watched the latest episode of British Bakeoff.

For snacks this week, I made blueberry muffins using the Jordan Marsh recipe.  They are so good, and I finally used up all of 2024 blueberries. Culinary Adventures with Lori: Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins

Meals this week...
Chicken, veggie rice bowls with cheese roll ups.

Lamb burgers with zucchini 'fries'
LO Beef and bean chili with garlic cheddar biscuits
Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans.

TBG saw where you can cook a whole chicken in a bundt pan covering the middle piece with foil and wanted me to try it.  I usually roast a chicken in my Dutch oven, but I tried it to make him happy.  This is not a great picture, but it did work well and tasted really good.  It evenly cooks all of the skin without turning or rotating which was nice.  I put a cooking sheet under the bundt pan just in case.  Nothing leaked at all, but I'd still do it the same just in case.

Fettuccini alfredo with left over chicken and a salad
Steak, loaded baked potato and salad
Tonight, I think we're having BIG salad with the remaining lo chicken.

Have you ever had the feeling someone was watching you?  I was cleaning the kitchen the other night and had that feeling.  TBG was gone so it felt a little earie until I turned to see it was Binx.  He was sitting on the garbage can staring at me.  Such a cute little goofball.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and making memories along the way.

  1. My daughter has deer like you. They live in town and the deer walk right down the street - and eat her plants. She's given up!
We had Dominos with a coupon last night too. It ended up being a longer day that we thought, so ordered it and ours was also good - and the leftovers will make another meal.
You did great at the store!

    1. We technically live in town also and there are SO many deer here.
This was the first time we've had Domino's for awhile and it was really good.

    1. I was happy with it too. For 100.00 I got a LOT of stuff that we use regularly at good prices. I love when that happens.
The pizza was actually really good.

    1. It is a cute movie and will take you back to the 70's.
TBG really wanted to see how it would turn out and it did turn out very crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside so I am glad it worked well.

  4. It was sweltering today here too. I haven't mowed in nearly two weeks, the back in three. This week I'll have to and then probably 1-2 more the rest of fall. I need to get some mums. My summer plants have pretty much died.

    1. We are so dry here the grass has just gone dormant. It probably won't need mowed until we get rain. I love mums, they're just so simple and pretty.

  5. Binx is so cute! I love the pictures but I'm trying to comprehend $2.79 gas. Even with the $0.60 discount I'm working on with Chevron I'd still pay $4.79 for 91 octane here.

    1. Gas here on Friday was 3.19 a gallon. I know your prices in CA are outrageous.

  7. just curious, is $2.79 the average price of gas? We're heading into the States in a week or two's time, so was wondering how much a gallon it was is? I thought we paid around $2.40 a gallon in New York State, earlier in the year?

    1. I'm in southern Illinois and the gas Friday was 3.19. It's different in each state. The 2.79 was after a .40 per gallon discount.

  8. Awwww Binx was in gazing mode, hahaa! He is so adorable. Just darling. That bundt pan chicken looks delicious and so does that pizza! Growing up in Florida (or at least living there for several years), Mama sometimes took us to shop at Jordan Marsh. Those muffins look scrumptious! It's hot here too, but yes the humidity is lower, for which I am thankful! xoxo

    1. Hi Jenny! Binx is still a crazy cat but he has mellowed a bit and actually naps now instead of full steam ahead all day like he used to. I'm so ready for more fall weather. This week is predicted 80's instead of 90's so we're going in the right direction.

  9. I am half out of my mind with this heat! This is July weather, come on! We are past the midpoint of September. We should be having cool crisp nights, and mild days. The fact that mid 80s are going to continue into October has me in quite a mood.

    1. I am tired of the heat and ready for more fall weather. I get the foul mood I've been in one a bit too. I just want cool fresh air and fall comfort food.

    1. This week the temps are supposed to be high in 80's so we're getting there. We call Chrysanthemums 'mums'. I see how that could be confusing.

  11. Hello, my friend. I have been a horrible blogging friend lately! I have seen the Bundt pan chicken, but you are the first I have seen who did it! Thank you for the info. I hope you get a taste of cozy fall weather soon!

  12. Back in the day, I used to loooove Bake Off! I learned sooo much about bread making from Hollywood. Sorry you can't have the fall fun in the front. Too bad there's not something safe to spray to keep them away.

    1. I still enjoy watching. There were a couple of years that I didn't really enjoy but the the last two have been fun. I hate that I can't decorate the front yard but I am highly out numbered by deer here.

  14. Interesting about the bundt pan chicken idea! Sounds like it worked. I would like to see the Judy Blume movie, as I devoured those books as a young teen, but we don't get Netflix and it's about the only thing we don't have. Maybe I'll find it on something else.
