The first full week of September was nice. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. Who doesn't like cool nights and warm days with no humidity? I planted more lettuce and arugula and got rid of any weeds. I didn't get many in the garden beds this year so that was nice. The herbs are all still doing great, but the last basil planted will be it for this year. I grew a LOT of basil, the pesto is made, and I have a large jar dehydrated so we're good there. The Butterfly Milkweed seeds are in the refrigerator now, so I'll be able to plant them the first week of October before we get our first frost. We've only had one rain in a long time, and none is predicted for a couple of weeks so it looks like trimming is all TBG will have to do. The grass isn't really growing now.
We watched Katrina-Come Hell or High Water on Netflix. TBG told me he actually was in the army with Russell Honore and showed me his photo in his old army yearbook. I didn't remember him telling me that before, but according to TBG he was a great guy back then too. We also watched the new episode of the Great British Baking Show and enjoyed it. It seems like they have some really creative contestants.
Thanks for the compliments on the beef ribs we had Labor Day. They were so flavorful. We enjoyed them with potato salad, deviled eggs and sliced tomatoes. Meals the rest of the week were...
BLT and zucchini 'fries'. We only have a few more weeks to get enjoy these while the tomatoes and zucchini are still producing and I know I will miss them. I cook the bacon and zucchini all on the same cooking sheet so it's an easy clean up meal too.
I noticed our neighbor two houses down had something go through their bin on trash night and strung stuff all over their yard. I was pulling out when the garbage man came and he got out and picked almost all of it up and then got back in to dump the bin. That really made me smile. He very easily could have stayed in the truck and ignore it, but he cleaned it up.
Nice that they didn't bother you on your day off, but I had rather be bothered than smell rotting food.
ReplyDeleteExactly!! They text me crazy videos all the time, I would have not minded being told the refrigerator was out. When they opened the door it was horrible.
DeleteThat candle sounds wonderful. I’m still trying to adjust to the cooler temperatures. I hate having to wear long sleeves and socks again, but I am always cold.
ReplyDeleteIt smells really good. It was 48 this morning when I got up but warmed to 70ish. We have another round of 90's coming later this week so I'm not complaining. TBG is always cold too even when it really isn't that cold.
DeleteEverything sounds so good. Wow, how nice of the garbage man - that would never happen here!
ReplyDeleteHow ungrateful - they get a new fridge and then complain - I think more than 2 slaps are in order.
Have a good one.
Thanks Cheryl. I was really happy to see he picked up the trash. They don't have to get out of the trucks, but he did, and it was good to see. Those moments remind me there are good people in the world. Have a good week!!
DeleteOh too bad about the refrigerator. That's kind of crazy that they could bug you about other things but not the refrigerator on your day off.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that the garbage guy picked up the mess. Most of them would just leave it there.
I can smell that candle from here. I bet it's heavenly.
They send me crazy videos all the time but not about the stench of a dead refrigerator. I don't get it either. I automatically figured he would not pick it all up but he did and it did make me smile. This candle does smell really good.
DeleteAll your meals look great. I too am loving this September weather..
ReplyDeleteSo nice of the garbage man.
Thank you. I thought it was very nice of him too.
DeleteYour meals are always inspiring, my friend. And I love, love, love the candle being lit while you cook. Cozy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Billie Jo! Fall and Winter call for candle light.
DeleteThat pasta dish is making me hungry, and I'm eating breakfast as I write this. I need to go candle shopping. I bought two small stemless wine glasses from Crate & Barrel that I never use. They might be perfect for two small ones.
ReplyDeleteIt was really good and I just remembered it was chicken not chicken sausage. I love candles during the fall and winter to cozy up the house.
DeleteYikes nothing worse than a fridge that quite working. Two slaps indeed.
ReplyDeleteAfter two days it stunk so bad.
DeleteWe're supposed to have really nice weather this week too. I need to enjoy it and not think about the snow that will be coming! As I sit here, our oak trees have started to drop acorns and they are hitting the roof like the squirrels are throwing them at us. :) I've also been lighting candles more - so cozy when it gets cooler outside!
ReplyDeleteYour meals look so good and are making me hungry. I'm saving the rib recipe.
Yikes on the fridge, that's such a terrible smell.
Yes, enjoy the weather while you can. We don't usually have long, brutal winters so I don't mind them. That is funny about the acorns hitting your roof like squirrels are throwing them.
DeleteCandles are nice this time of year and I love to have one burning in the kitchen while I'm cooking.
Thank you, the ribs were good. And yes, that refrigerator smell from one bag of meat (that no one would claim) was not pleasant.
I love zucchini and anything made with it! That refrigerator sounds so gross! That pasta looks really good!
ReplyDeleteI love zucchini too and I will miss it this winter so I'm trying to eat as much as I can while I can. Yes, when a refrigerator doesn't cool for two days, the meat in the freezer (not sure who's it was) really was unpleasant.
