What's on my mind: My self-imposed deadline to have everything done inside and out before it gets cold is November 1st and I think I will make this deadline. We're almost finished changing out rooms which took a lot more time than I anticipated but that is always the case. I took quite a bit to the thrift shop that I was finally willing to let go of for sentimental reasons. This clock is an example of something that it's time to let go of. I've had this since I was probably 7 years old. Why I still had it I'm not sure. I'm a firm believer that just because you have space doesn't mean you should keep things that you don't like and don't use.
A bit more cleaning inside and out and we will be good. I also need to make an appointment to have the gutters and the outside of the house cleaned before November.
Where I've been: Work was not pleasant this week but trying to remember my agreement with myself that I give them 8 hours of my time in exchange for money and benefits helps me keep things in prospective. Binx had his yearly checkup and rabies shot and he was such a good boy in the Jeep and at the office. He's maintaining his weight of 11 pounds which makes him the smallest cat we've ever lived with. I stopped by the farmers market for honey and a few other things. There still is a lot growing but I know we have only a few weeks left for most of it.
My favorite farmer had the most gorgeous and delicious strawberries that he grew on his farm. It is a special variety that produces in the Spring and the Fall. They are as delicious as they look.
Where I'm going: TBG has a doctor's appointment Tuesday in the city 50 minutes away that we shop in a lot so I'm going too so we can pick a few things up while we are there and have a nice lunch. Other than that, I don't have any appointments.
What I'm watching: I watched Hocus Pocus one night this week like I do every October. I also watched the new series on CNN, Tony Shalhoub Breaking Bread and really enjoyed it. We have a few series to catch up on hopefully this weekend.
What I'm reading: I started Good Husbandry by Kristin Kimbell after finishing her first book.
What made me say hmmm? I saw two different women at work this week with bizarre unusual haircuts that made me wonder who the hell is cutting their hair.  One was a very short cut in the back with strands in the front that were shoulder length.  The other had her hair in a ponytail and was telling the woman with her that her hair is so thick she had him hack cut the hair underneath. I don't typically judge or even really notice things like this but these haircuts both looked like Edward Scissorhands did them.
What is making me smile: Even though we're still in the 70's-80's during the day the cooler nights are enough to make me smile.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and a lovely week ahead.

Good for you for meeting those your deadline. I self impose deadlines on myself too, but it's a good thing - keeps me on track! I got rid of lots of stuff last year and had to be brutal about it. I think I need to do it again this winter.
ReplyDeleteYour haircut stories made me laugh~
Time goes by so quickly, I have to have lists and deadlines. I'm at the sentimental items part of decluttering and it is a bit hard, but I am being brutal. The haircuts were different.
DeleteIt feels so good to get rid of stuff. I drove the last of my mom’s clothes down to her favorite charity that’s 45 mins away for me. It was 8 winter coats (most never worn) that they wouldn’t accept until October due to space. I’m glad to know they will be used by people in need.
ReplyDeleteIt does feel good. That must have been hard to give her coats away but yes, it is good to know they will be used by someone that needs it.
DeleteHopefully I have a lot done by Nov. 1 - got a good 3 weeks.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice week. You know I have never seen Hocus Pocus - ever! Never had a desire for some reason.
The pictures all look so yummy - fresh food is always a treat.
Enjoy your soup!
Hocus Pocus is a really cute movie. I always watch it every October. That is where Binx got his name.
DeleteThat's a good attitude to have towards work. I bet it really helps to get through difficult days.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a lot of things lately that make me wonder. Not only haircuts but all kinds of different fads that people seem to be into these days. I just don't get them.
It does work for me to remember to not let it all get to me too much. I don't get a lot of things either, but these two haircuts were beyond crazy. You would cringe if you saw them.
DeleteWow, a farmers' market, Hocus Pocus AND Tony Shaloub all in one week! I'd consider that to be heaven!
ReplyDeleteOther than work, it was a pretty good week.
DeleteI'm still laughing about the description of the hair-cuts, especially the part where you said "these haircuts both looked like Edward Scissorhands did them." too funny!! I went though a similar thing getting rid of things I had not used (and never liked) in years- like you, I didn't know why I held on to them except I felt guilty getting rid of them. I will miss the fall farmer's markets as we are now in Florida and we don't have any around here. We made the trip in 2 days after all.
ReplyDeleteThey really did look like that. They were just horrible cuts.
DeleteI think we all get to the point of being able to let things go that are in some ways sentimental or like you said there is a bit of guilt for wanting to let them go. I'm glad you arrived safely. We had a weekly farmers market when we lived in Ft. Myers, I'm surprised you don't have one in your area. Have a good week.
I'm glad you are able to get all accomplished that you want! As far as haircuts I swear anything goes these days! I work with a woman who is probably in her late 50's and she wears her hair spiked all the way around her head! You can imagine what all those senior women think of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm working on it. These were the two most bizarre haircuts I've seen but spiked all the way around the head??? That sounds pretty interesting also.
DeleteI'll be clearing out my closet of a few things this week, and as of last night I've added Ozzy Osbourne's "Last Rites" to my Kindle reading pile.
ReplyDeleteI bet that will be an interesting book.
DeleteGood for you! I am thinking of getting ready to prepare for our cozy hibernation time!
ReplyDeleteIt's the best time of the year!
DeleteI had to smile about the chicken carcass - i have one in my freezer atm too so will have to make a chicken soup/stew soon.
ReplyDeleteReal stock makes the best soups and stews, doesn't it?
DeleteI make deadlines for myself too. I have a list of things to do before Thanksgiving but I'm hoping to be done early! I got rid of so much stuff last year. We did a big clean out of my parents' house. Some things were really had to part with but once I did it, I was very happy it was done. I hear you about work. I feel the same way! The haircut stories made me smile. I don't know what people are thinking sometimes! : )
ReplyDeleteI have to write everything in my notebook and put a deadline or I procrastinate. Plus, time just goes by too quickly. I used to enjoy work a lot more than I do now that corporate has taken over our local hospital, so I had to set boundaries for myself. The two haircuts I saw were very unusual and I have no idea what they were thinking.
DeleteEdward Scissorhands. Oh my!
ReplyDeleteSpooky .. I'm on a deadline to get each room organized by Halloween. 🎃
I'm actually enjoying myself. I agree on not keeping stuff if someone doesn't like it. I don't have much to donate, just a small bag in the trunk. Right now it's just about getting each space cleaned and set.
Good Luck on your deadline. Life gets in the way sometimes. That is where I am now, just cleaning and making sure everything is in its place.
DeleteYes same. A home for everything.
