How is Thanksgiving in 3 days?

TBG and I discussed the whole beef instead of or with turkey debate for Thanksgiving and I reminded him that we have always had turkey and we rarely eat it any other time of the year, so it was important and he agreed. I think the pot of Brunswick Stew was the key because he does love that.  Our menu this year will be turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce and cornbread dressing along with sweet potato pie.  All is now right in my world.

The week was busy but productive.  My dental appointment went well and I'm all good for another six months.  TBG got into the Orthopedic office to treat the SI joint that was bothering him for a good two or three weeks.  He isn't back to baseline, but I think he's on his way which is a relief to both of us.
We ran our errands and stocked up on most things.  We also found this year's gingerbread creation.  Last year we made a gingerbread house for the first time, and we had so much fun we decided to make it a new tradition.  Culinary Adventures with Lori: My Weekly W's  This was last years and while not fabulous, it was cute and held together well.  This year TBG picked this one and I hope it isn't too much above our skill set but we will see.

This is only a three-day work week so of course I am looking forward to that.  Next weekend, we will make the house all cozy for Christmas with the decorations and tree.  One of my favorite things is to sit by the tree with all the other lights off and just enjoy the silence and the sparkling tree.  Confession...I usually don't start watching Christmas movies until after Thanksgiving, but I've been watching them all month and I am not sorry.  The season is too short and there are too many movies I want to see each year.

There are no appointments or commitments this week and I always love that then Saturday is the family Thanksgiving being held at my brothers this year.

This week we ate.
BIG salad x 2
Maine Red fish with rice and small salad
Lamb meatballs, pasta, salad - I used breadcrumbs, an egg and a cube of pesto I made this summer and they were delicious.
LO shredded beef on buns with au jus and "fries'
Chicken stir fry over rice
Tonight, we're having the leftover meatballs over fresh pasta and a salad.

Monday thru Wednesday this week will be light meals, but I haven't decided exactly what yet.

Well, I am off to do a few things on my list and then I believe I'm going to take a short nap.  It's in the low 50's but gloomy which is a perfect excuse for one.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their day. I will leave you with a picture of Binx in case you need a smile.

  1. I remember your gingerbread creation last year! Middle Child went to Meijers with my husband and picked out a kit, but I haven’t seen it yet. She kept it in her room to be safe from the grandkids🤣

I hope both your celebrations are warm and cozy!

    1. I just love that she continues that tradition. I actually wish we would have started doing it years ago but better late than never.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

  2. We have never had anything but turkey on Thanksgiving so there's never been any debate. Would you believe that I have never made a gingerbread house?

    1. We haven't either. I can NOT believe you have never made one. With your creativity and decorating skills it would be awesome. You need to do one.

    1. I really didn't want to make both so I am a happy woman.
This kit has a lot of pieces so I am being cautiously optimistic.
I hope you have a great week Cheryl!!

  4. We always have turkey on Thanksgiving too, it's tradition!
I made gingerbread houses with the granddaughters last year and it was a disaster as they all fell apart. But we got some laughs.
    Binx is cute!

    1. Exactly. It is tradition. Oh no on the gingerbread houses. Ours stayed together somehow. It is a fun way to spend a few hours either way.
      Binx is something else.

    1. We only have turkey once a year and yes, it is just what you do.
Cornbread dressing is a must in our house. Have a great holiday Anne!

  6. I'm glad you are having your turkey after all - I know you were going to make a little one anyway, but this is better! I'm glad all went well at the dentist and the Orthopedic doc for TBG. Your gingerbread house came out cute last year, I'm sure the truck will be great too! Be sure to take a photo for us. Decorating gingerbread houses every Christmas Eve was something that I started as a tradition when my kids were little. My son has carried it on with his girls now. Enjoy the short work week Lori, and enjoy your Thanksgiving celebrations. I can't tell you how happy I am to be back in touch with you. Big hugs!

    1. Me too Martha, I really didn't want to make both. Yes, everything turned out pretty well with our appointments which is always nice. I will be sure and take a picture of the truck whether good or bad. That is so awesome that you started the tradition with your kids and now they're doing it with their children. I love that. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family. I am so thankful that we are in touch again. Hugs to you!!

    1. We have always had it too and I'm glad that tradition will continue. I put all of the candy in a basket for TBG to take to his TKD students and it was like Binx got up there to guard it. He's one of a kind.

  8. Jinx was so well behaved and didn't even play with all the candies :-)) Why not cooked both Turkey and Brunswick Stew?

  11. I love that all is right in your world, Lori. Wonderful! Happy Eating! PS: You're the second person that mentioned Devil eggs today. I had no idea people ate them this time of year and today, I heard it two times. That's interesting.

    1. I grew up with deviled eggs on all of the holidays. Maybe because my grandparents always had so many eggs, I'm not sure. It's just a tradition I've always continued.

  13. I love your gingerbread creation tradition. The truck looks fun so hopefully it won't be too complicated! We also love sitting in a room with only the Christmas tree lit. Very soothing to my soul.

    1. I hope the truck isn't too difficult, we will see. I don't know how anyone couldn't enjoy sitting in a room with the Christmas tree being the only light. It is so soul soothing. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  14. Turkey is an absolute must for me. It is the only time of the year when I eat it, and I really enjoy it. My menu sounded similar to yours, except I also had sausage dressing. I made a light pumpkin mousse for dessert because I’m not a fan of pie, and for me, I would much rather have an extra portion of dressing than dessert.

    1. Turkey is a must for me as well and I am glad he saw the error of his ways even suggesting we leave turkey out. I would always pick savory over sweet food too.
