Hello and happy March! I know a lot of people in the US are happy that winter is fading away and spring is right around the corner. It is a bit bittersweet for me because I do love winter. But each season has a lot to offer so I'm excited for a few changes after hibernating for months.
I'm joining Sherry at sherrys pickings to share what went on in my kitchen this month. Be sure and visit her to see what is going on around the world in people's kitchens.
February was a bit of a slow month in my kitchen. I took inventory of the freezer to see what needs to be used before summer when I start to restock. I did very well last summer/fall in dehydrating and freezing our local produce. I have quite a few blueberries and cherries to use up and a LOT of jalapeno peppers. Everything else looks like I chose just the right amount for us except for green peppers which I used the last of this past week. I'll need to make sure to put more of them away this year because we do use them a lot.
Valentine's Day was last month, and I had fun making chocolate raspberry jam filled cupcakes with cream cheese frosting (with a lot of sprinkles of course) for my work group. They enjoyed them and wanted me to make more. I also made chocolate covered strawberries for TBG and I. I found the cutest heart shaped container that was just perfect. I'm not a big fan of chocolate covered strawberries, but these were pretty good.
We went out to dinner for Valentine's Day on the night before and really enjoyed our favorite local Mexican restaurant. I tried a strawberry daiquiri and was not disappointed at all.
TBG and I played a lot of boardgames and card games and one night I made appetizers for us to enjoy while we played. Wonton wrappers are amazing vessels for a number of things. I made a few with cream cheese and pepper jelly and a few with some left over chili with cheese on top. They really are so good.
And a friend of mine sent me one of her latest creations. A kitchen witch. I remember back in the 70's these were very popular for a while. It's a tradition in many countries to hang one by your stove to make sure all of your cooking turns out delicious. I'm not sure if I believe that but she is super cute, in a witchy kind of way, and all of our meals and bakes turned out pretty good, so she has a new home by my stove.
Well, that wraps up February. I hope everyone is well and staying safe. What has been happening in your kitchen. I would love to hear about it.
Of course I had to research the candle. I am sitting here smelling it in my mind.
ReplyDeleteNow I am torn about going to buy one at Cracker Barrel or ordering one from a site I found that has the same fragrance but is made by a company of special needs adults.
Your February treats look wonderful.
It is a really nice smelling candle. I did get mine at Cracker Barrel, I didn't know there was a company of special needs adults that made them. That would be a good place to support.
DeleteThat candle sounds fabulous! I love food scented ones. Your Valentine's treats look wonderful. I didn't make anything this year because I still had Christmas sweets in the freezer for us to have. We've been enjoying them once a week. I'm with you on not being a big fan of chocolate covered strawberries because it seems like you take a bite and all the chocolate falls off.
ReplyDeleteIt smells so good Bijoux. Food or spice scented candles are pretty much all I buy. My work group is great because any time I feel like baking but don't want a lot of it at home, they are more than happy to have it. I tried to read if there was something to do when making the strawberries to prevent the chocolate from falling off but I couldn't find anything.
DeleteEVERYTHING LOOKS SO GOOD.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim!!
DeleteGood idea about wonton wrappes!
ReplyDeleteThey are so versatile, I love them.
DeleteThe food all looks and sounds wonderful. I love yummy smelling candles.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cheryl. It is a good smelling candle.
DeleteLove the kitchen witch. Such fun. Glad you had a nice time celebrating valentine's day.. all the food looks so food.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hena. I hope March is a good month for you.
DeleteA candle that smells like pancakes and syrup sounds yummy. It's been a long time since I've seen a kitchen witch. The cupcakes sound delicious and I'm drooling over the chocolate covered strawberries.
ReplyDeleteThis candle smells so good. I love a good candle. It had been a very long time since I had seen one two until she brought it to me and said she's been making them because they are popular again.
Deletethanks so much for joining in! Love that kitchen witch; I have one too and a kitchen angel. The cupcakes are so pretty; i do love a choc-covered strawberry so would happily eat those. We are hanging out for winter here, as it has been a very long hot and humid summer. Have a fab March.
ReplyDeletecheers
sherry
Thank you for hosting Sherry. I am not surprised you have a kitchen witch and a kitchen angel. I would love to see them. I hope you have a wonderful March.
DeleteI love that kitchen witch! Need to get one too :-) Those wonton wrapers are looking good. Happy March, Lori.
ReplyDeleteHappy March Angie!! Yes, I think we all need to bring back the tradition of a kitchen witch.
DeleteI think spring is my favourite season but I'm like you, I enjoy winter too. Maybe it's all that hibernating!
ReplyDeleteI love hibernating, the holidays, the cold dark nights and I always have.
DeleteI must admit that my favorite part of winter is looking an all the gorgeous photos of snow while I sit in my balcony in Florida. I'm not a winter person. I do enjoy spring/fall/ and summer. Your cupcakes look adorable and sound delicious. So nice that you play boardgames with your hubby. We seem to only play with other couples. I do remember the kitchen witches, not sure I ever had one though. Glad you had a nice Valentine's Day. Have a good week Lori.
ReplyDeleteFunny because I am a winter person and winters in Florida for 20 years were so depressing to me. We do enjoy playing cards or board games a bit each day. It gives us a chance to relax and chat. I think kitchen witches are making a comeback. Wishing you a wonderful week Judee.
DeleteI remember kitchen witches! First time visiting from IMK!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by.
DeleteHappy March! All your food looks delicious! I'll have to try the won ton wrappers! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteHappy March!! Won ton wrappers make great little cups to hold pretty much anything. I hope you have a good week also.
DeleteMy Mom had one of those kitchen witches when I was a kid! You can never go wrong with a strawberry margarita.
ReplyDeleteShe did that is so cool. I guess everything comes back around again. I have never tried strawberry before, and it was very tasty.
DeleteI want a kitchen witch! I would like to have a candle with that scent but I can't have anything scented. It's a bummer. The wanton raps are a great idea. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten all about a kitchen witch until my friend brought me this one. Apparently, everything old is new again and people are wanting them. Wonton raps are so handy for various things. Have a great week.
DeleteOh my gosh, Lori, everything looks delicious! Those cupcakes look amazing! I'm the same way with chocolate covered strawberries, I can take them or leave them. But, yours look so professional! I can smell that candle, just by the name. My new favorite right now is a candle I buy at Hobby Lobby, called, Kona Coffee... I don't drink coffee, but I love the way it smells, reminds me of home. The kitchen witch is adorable!! Have a great week! Hugs, Barb
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barb. The candle does smell just like buttery pancakes with maple syrup. I am the same way, I love the smell of coffee, but I do not drink it. I bet the candle is wonderful. Wishing you a wonderful week too.
DeleteIt's so cool that you love winter. I've loved this one. So far. I don't think it's over. Yet.
