How is it even possible that we are almost in April? I feel like the months are turning into just a blur no matter how much I slow down and try to make every day intentional. I've heard as you get older this is what happens, so I guess I better just get used to it. But seriously it is crazy.
On Monday I received a call from my one up that I needed to take a PTO day before March 31 because it is part of systems financial improvement plan, that everyone takes two days between March 16 and 31. I am assuming that after letting almost 100 people go last month they had to pay quite a bit of PTO out and needed to recoup that somehow. It is interesting times we are in. I never thought I would hear taking PTO was mandatory but here we are.
I finally found a desk for my new space at home, and it is exactly what I've been looking for. It's an old solid wood desk with 8 drawers that has been completely refurbished. Other than eventually painting, the room has turned out perfect for me. It's odd to have a room all to myself with all of my 'stuff' but I am really enjoying it.
I took my mandatory PTO day on Friday so decided to go and do a bit of stocking up on sale items at Kroger. I got a great deal on a number of things we routinely use like Bob's Redmill Flour for 2.49, butter for 2.29 and quite a few other items. Gas was 3.99 a gallon and I had 50 cents off a gallon so that was a nice savings. With everything going up more and more, I really feel bad for people with fixed incomes or children at home.
What we ate:
LO chili and a cheese roll up
Lamb burgers with 'fries'
Salmon with Jack Daniels glaze, baked potato and asparagus. I will share the recipe for the glaze soon, because it is so good on so many things.
BIG salad
Dinner at friends. She served these cream cheese pickle bites and they were amazing with an awesome dill dip.
Naan with chicken, red onions and Provel cheese with a salad. I love that one naan is the perfect size for the two of us to share.
I'm glad I ate well all week because yesterday afternoon I broke one of my back molars. There really isn't much tooth pain but it broke off and is so sharp that even talking and swallowing is pretty painful because my tongue scrapes up against it. SO, tomorrow I will be calling the dentist to see if I can get this taken care of asap. I have a lot planned for the coming week and this was not on the list. But, you know what they say about planning.
I saw this and immediately thought of Binx. He's almost four years old and this is definitely his life.
He's had this toy since he was a kitten and he used to sleep on it a lot when he was little and I actually found him sleeping on it this week and he doesn't fit as well as he used to.
That is a pretty desk - nice. Hope you get the tooth taken care of quickly.
ReplyDeleteThose little pickle bites look yummy.
Have a great week.
Thank you Cheryl. It is exactly what I've been looking for and I saw that a local refurbishing company was moving and had this.
DeleteI forgot to mention that I am really happy to hear your sister is getting to go home. That is wonderful news.
That desk is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSorry about your tooth. I really hate dental issues. Isn't it ironic that you had to take a PTO day and now you'll be needing more time because of this tooth problem. I do hope you can get in quickly.
That cat quote is good!
I love the desk. I really dislike dental issues myself. I saw the quote and thought yes, that is my cat's life.
DeleteOh he fits, because if "he sits he fits". Gorgeous desk. I hope your former colleague's landed ok after layoffs.
ReplyDeleteYes, cats seem to find a way, don't they? It was quite the shock to most of them and the job market is a shamble right now, so I don't know what most of them are planning to do.
DeleteSorry to hear about the tooth. I've had that happen and the way it will scrap up your tongue or inside of your cheek is always awful.
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful desk
Yes, the scraping of the tongue is not good at all, but I guess it is better than a full-blown tooth ache. I'm trying not to complain.
DeleteBinx is the best; may your dentistry see better days.
ReplyDeleteBinx is a cool cat.
DeleteI've been retired a long time. I don't know what PTO is. I have a similar desk in my guest room. Enjoy your new desk. There have been many layoffs in our area too. Binx is adorable and certainly has it all.
ReplyDeletePTO is personal time off. At my job, we earn so many hours a pay period depending on our role and seniority that accrues. Any that you have is paid out if we decide to leave or they get rid of us. That time is ours to use for holidays, sick days and vacation.
DeleteFrom what I'm hearing, there are layoffs everywhere.
yum! cream cheese pickle bites are looking delectable! Yes the time is absolutely flying by ... the older you get ... Happy april and easter to you. Oh yes love your new desk! Yes what is pto? something time off?
ReplyDeletecheers
sherry
Sherry, they were amazing! Yes, it is true about time as you get older. See my comment above to Judee regarding the PTO. I am looking forward to April and getting the garden started.
DeleteSorry you're dealing with dental issues too. It is not fun and yes, so expensive.
I hope everything is OK where you are, especially weather wise.
good luck with the tooth. I still have to have 3 or 4 crowns done! oh my poor bank account.
ReplyDeleteI love that desk too! Those lamb burger fries look absolutely droolworthy. Meow Binx :-))
ReplyDeleteI think your desk is lovely but I would also think about painting it a lighter colour maybe! And taking PTO is a real treat isn't it, but I can see why your employer doesn't want to be paying out any more for it!
ReplyDeleteThe picture looks darker than it actually is. It isn't painted but stained a dark brown and I quite like it as it fits with everything else in the room.
Delete"Follow for financial advice" is hilarious, Lori! The desk looks beautiful. I hope you have a wonderful Holy Week and a Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteHello my friend. I hope you and your family also have a wonderful week and a nice Easter!!
DeleteLori, time does fly and I remember my grandmother telling me this. Not Bossy!
ReplyDeleteI think I remember mine telling me too.
DeleteI love the desk and the financial advice, but ouch on that back molar! That's how I earned my first dental implant. I originally had it capped but it was a 50/50 proposition it would hold. That failed about five years later. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go straight for the implant.
ReplyDeleteI just left the dentist office. My dentist is out for the week, but I saw his partner. The filling is still intact; I actually broke a piece of the tooth. He did a temporary fix, so it isn't cutting up my mouth, and I see my dentist in two weeks. He suggested either a root canal and cap or inplant so it's good to hear your experience.
DeleteWow, these look delicious! I'm hungry now. Ever since I got a new cabinet refinishing, I've been spending more time in the kitchen, well now I need to make something yummy like you. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love the new desk! I have my own room too with all my stuff in it and I love it! All the food looks delicious! Hope you got your tooth taken care of by now! Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteI was excited to finally find exactly what I was looking for. I really didn't realize how nice it would be to have my own room with all of my stuff, but I love it. Happy Easter to you also.
DeleteBeautiful desk, my friend!!!!!! I just broke a piece off of my back tooth too!!!! Ugh! Have a cozy evening, my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh no Billie Jo. I'm sorry to hear that you broke one too. It is no fun is it?
DeleteHope they get you in for your tooth. Glad you're not in pain. Love the new desk and that you have a space. I love spaces and stations for things we do. Never tried a fried pickle though I've heard good things about them. March few by. Whoosh.
