Who needs a good slap: Just when you think someone cannot sink any lower, they do. Governor Pritzger deserves 5 throat punches slaps, for SO many reasons! This is not a political party rant, but a personal oppinion of mine about our governor so please don't take it there.
Where I've been: Thursday we went to St. Louis University hospital for a test that TBG had scheduled. It was a long morning for him, so when we finished around 12, we needed a good lunch and stopped at Drakes in Shiloh. You know I love their club sandwich. Friday, I only worked half a day so beat the holiday weekend crowds at Kroger and picked up a couple of things. Yesterday we went to Effingham to enjoy lunch at Firefly. Their fried green tomatoes are SO good, along with everything else. My birthday is tomorrow along with Memorial Day, so we wanted to enjoy a meal with just the two of us to celebrate early.
Where I'm going: Tuesday I have an appointment to have the back tooth that I broke pulled. I took Wednesday off too just in case I'm not feeling well. I'm sure I'll stay home regardless. Thursday TBG has an appointment with his cardiologist here in town. Other than that, we have no plans and I hope no others pop up.
What I'm watching: The garden is growing like crazy. Everything looks really good. I went out this morning to cut some of the garlic scapes. I am going to pickle this bunch and then pick the rest in a day or two for hummus.
Spaghetti and beef meatballs with a salad
BIG salad x 2
Chicken sausage, scalloped potatoes and asparagus
Cube steak, pesto mac and cheese with a salad. It has probably been 20 years or more since I've made cube steaks and TBG mentioned it one day last week. I told him they are on the list for sale at the farm we go to, so he went out and picked two up. They were really tender and tasted good, but not a favorite of mine.
Chicken tikka masala with rice and naan.
Tonight we're having salmon with sides to be determined.
What's making me smile: This bush makes me smile every year. Does anyone know what kind it is? I would love to have two or three more on the other side of the back yard.
I hope everyone is well and if you're in the US enjoy the Memorial Day weekend!!
There is a town about 20 miles away from us that is fighting to stop a data center. From what I read besides being a strain on utilities they are noisy! Good luck! I don't know what that bush is but it sure is pretty!
ReplyDeleteYes, the noise is another one of the MANY problems not to mention all of the unknown problems that these will cause.
DeleteI love fried green tomatoes! Happy Birthday, Lori, and have a fantastic celebration.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie! I love them too and these were very tasty.
DeleteWe are having the same issue in our community and our wonderful Governor Whitmer put the same law into effect here. Grrr!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what kind of bush that is, but it sure is beautiful!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you Mari. Yes, I am amazed at how these governors' sneak things in. The amount of data centers in the US is already very scary.
DeleteSuddenly a need for data centers everywhere! Sure as heck makes me wonder what is going on. I am so against them.
ReplyDeleteLove fried green tomatoes - yum. Cube steaks are a fav of mine - just don't have them often.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!
So many are against them, but it doesn't look like that will do much. Fried green tomatoes are so good. Thank you for the birthday wish.
DeleteDo you think your tree could be a white strings tree. I have a similar bush that came from my grandmother's farm
ReplyDeleteI haven't been able to find out what it is.
Deletedata centers seem like energy and water sucks and should be avoided.
ReplyDeleteYou are living in a fools paradise; that bush is a triffid. Run.
Gosh I really hope that data centre gets rejected!!! From the very few pictures I've seen they look like a boil on the bum of the earth!!! Oh and could that bush be a spirea? Don't take my word for it but ....! And a happy birthday for tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI do too but we're up against the state not the county and our governor does not care what anyone says. So many have already left our state, and his response was basically fine go. Thank you for the birthday wishes.
DeleteRepublicans and democrats working together? That's an amazing concept. Too bad it didn't happen everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what that bush is but it sure is pretty.
Working together for the sake of the people...who knew huh?
DeleteData centers could become the new Nestle. If you're unsure what I'm talking about, Nestle has water right here but extracted more than what they're permitted. It really pissed people off when we had droughts.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am familiar with the Nestle issues. There are already over 4000 data centers in the US. Why do we need so many? It's going to harm our infrastructure and more.
Delete? Mockorange? Pox on the data centers
ReplyDeleteIt may be a mockorange. I'll have to look into it more, but it does look like that and the bees love it.
DeleteI don't know what that bush is, but it looks like popcorn! I love that so many of my blogger friends have May birthdays like I do. I hope your day is a beautiful one today!
ReplyDeleteOur state has a ridiculous number of data centers and our electric rates have gone sky high. People are now fighting them, but it's too little too late. And the crazy thing is, when I've used AI for travel research, it is not impressive.
Thank you my friend. It was a nice birthday. I remembered we're about a week apart andI hope you enjoy yours as well.
DeleteThere are over 4000 in the US already. I don't understand why so many other than we are trying to get ahead of China on AI. It's ridiculous.
I prefer for government to stay as local as possible but no one asked me. Hopefully you will not be home to the Data center.
ReplyDeleteSorry my iPad hates me commenting. Anne in the kitchen
DeleteLots of good food on the menu. Happy belated birthday. I don't know what the bush is but it is very pretty.
DeleteI do too. I love our local government but our wonderful governor and so many others snuck this in. Southern Illinois is VERY different than Chicago and we should have a say on what we want for our area.
DeleteSandra, thank you. Someone mentioned mock orange and I think that may be it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Oh no. a few towns over and multiple other towns in New Jersey had been fighting data centers. Two were victorious. I do not know what the future holds but it does not look promising.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hena! Yes, we already have over 4000 in the US and it seems like they want to continue building more and more. I worry about the long-term side effects of them. I hope you're enjoying Spring.
DeleteThere is talks about a data center in my town as well. I am a local carpet cleaner. I have been surprised by the passion against the data center from the people I clean for. I don't know enough about what a data center does to have a strong opinion. Something for me to explore more.
ReplyDeleteThe information from other towns that have had one for a while is a bit scary. I worry about long term issues that are unknown.
DeleteWhat a shame about the data center-I truthfully don't really even know what it is . It is a beautiful bush but can't help you on that one, Happy Birthday Lori
ReplyDeleteThank you Judee!! I hope you're enjoying being home for the summer.
DeleteRemember just a couple years ago when using electricity and diesel caused “climate change?” Now data centers use as much power as cities and it’s no problem. Huh.
ReplyDeleteYes! It's crazy what 'they' try to convince us of.
DeleteHappy Happy Happy Birthday, Lori! Having more dental work today myself and set aside rest time after. Hope the call center thing doesn't go through. I agree, many won't know it's too late until it is. Oh boy.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I've been sanding the back deck and making it nice for the summer reading and writing sessions.
Wishing you a most excellent rest of your Birthday Week. Hope all went well at the dentist.
JB Pritzker is a disgusting leftist cretin. Enough said. I had never in my life heard of garlic scapes until today. Fascinating! I hope the data center does not materialize. That's scary and so frustrating. I would love to visit Firefly someday! xoxo 🏴☠️
ReplyDeleteHe truly is. He has done so much damage to our state in the 8 years he has been governor.
DeleteThe first time I grew garlic a number of years ago I learned about scapes and how to use them. I didn't know before that.
If you are ever near Firefly, make sure I know so I can meet you there!!
