My Week

The heat and humidity of summer have definitely hit our area.  The first half of the week was highs of 93 with a feels like temperature of 102.  That had me watering every morning and evening since all of the predictions of rain were false.  We could really use rain.

Tuesday, I stopped by the farmers market for a few things.  So many people say their market is so expensive, but I have to say I believe ours has very fair prices.  I picked up 4 tomatoes, 2 zucchinis, a quart of blueberries, a quart of strawberries, a huge bunch of purple spring onions and a head of butter lettuce larger than my own head for $18.00.  I never could have gotten that at our local store and if I did, the quality would not be as good.

Saturday, we went downtown to Market Days and Paw Fest.  They had the cutest calico kitten that was just as feisty and playful as Binx when he was that age.  He had very little interest in everyone and was just focused on playing.  I hope all of the dogs and cats that were out there found a forever home.  After we walked around for an hour or two, we decided to stop for lunch.

We didn't watch much this week but did see Song Sung Blue this morning and we both really enjoyed it. Kate Hudson was great and I was surprised to see Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos in it.  I hadn't realized it was based on a true story.  I highly recommend it.

What we ate:
Chicken soup with a garlic baguet
Pepper jack stuffed beef cheeseburger with zucchini 'fries'.  The first zucchini of the year and it was delicious.

BLT with 'fries' The first BLT of the year also delicious.
I never buy store bought tomatoes or zucchini, so they have been missed.

Penne pasta with veggies and pesto sauce with a salad
BIG salad with garlic bread

Veggie naan 'pizza' with a salad

Tonight we're having salmon and rice with another side tbd.  I'm also going to make a blueberry coffee cake.     Culinary Adventures with Lori: 52 New Recipes in 52 Weeks #2 Sour Cream and Blueberry Coffee Cake  I have two bags from last summer in the freezer that I want to use up so that I can restock with fresh.

We don't have much planned for this week which is kind of a nice change.  I hope everyone is doing well and has a lovely week ahead.

Here is a smile for you. Binx started really watching TV a year or two ago.  Now he has decided he also enjoys videos on the phone.  I'm not sure exactly how I feel about that.

  1. I think our farmers market has fairly reasonable prices too. I always get zucchini and squash there. All your food looks really good.

    1. Good to hear someone say their prices are reasonable.
We had been missing zucchini so much, so it was awesome to have it again.

  2. We had the rains off and on this week - boy was it humid. Today brought a shower and it feels great now.
You did well at the farm market. Your meals sound so good! Love summer veggies with meals.

    1. We had a couple of brief sprinkles but no real rain. I heard the last half of June will be more in the 80's instead of 90's and I will take that. Summer veggies are the best.

  3. Yesterday was our first farmers market of the season and I missed it. Interested to see what the prices are like.
That's too funny that Binx is watching videos on your phone.

    1. When you go be sure and let me know how the prices are. I hear so many saying theirs is very expensive.
I've caught Binx watching TV quite a few times and now the phone. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that.

  4. Lovely prices at your Farmer's Market. That makes me happy. All your food looked good. Life is yummy. This past week we watched much YouTube Premium and the Bricks and Mini figs saga with Reckless Ben stuff. The whole LEGO mess. Wishing you a yummy week.

PS: When in Michael's today I took another look at their candle stuff. the store cleaned up and reset the isle. Curious to give their fragrance a go. Have you made a candle yet?

    1. I am sad to say I haven't made a candle yet. Life has been so busy. I'm wishing you a fabulous week.

    2. It's understandable for sure. I tell you though, it doesn't take long but I'm still playing with scents. Also, I really like a candle with zero smell. That's just melting and add a wick. Very fun.

  5. By our standards those market prices were pretty good (and, as you say, the produce is usually so much better than you find in the store, isn't it)!

  6. One stand is low compared to most others so I first see what they have, but overall, fair prices for great taste and quality from my tiny one in town. I can't wait for the first locally grown tomatoes. I buy in the store but taste is not the same. That kitty sounds so cute. Our kitten is bigger than his adopted sister now and won't be a year until October. He's so playful but always hungry- not chubby though as he burns what he eats.

  7. I'm glad you have access to a decently priced farmers market too. All of our vendors are local farms that sell what they grow. We had our first locally grown tomato last week and it was delicious! The kitten was adorable and so full of energy and playful. He would have been a great match for Binx but we're going to remain a 1 cat household.

  8. Our humidity was brutal this weekend, and so are our food prices. I'm having to adjust my purchases as well. I love that Binx watches videos but I'd be worried if it's TikTok. Have a great week!

    1. The humidity here was really high all last week but it has gone down quite a bit and is nice now. I hope it stays this way for a while. He was watching martial art videos with TBG. No TikTok. I hope you have a great week as well.

  9. Happy Monday Lori! I wish I could have joined you for a BLT! It looked delicious. I love them this time of year too. You are so lucky with your farmers market prices. They are high here. Yes, the quality is way better, but I have to pay dearly for it. I just watched Song Sung Blue last weekend. I had no idea what it was about going in. I really enjoyed it. My husband was also surprised to see Michael Imperioli! Certainly, a much different role than Sopranos! LOL Happy Monday and happy new week! It's been HOT here too but today feels much better. We'll see how long it lasts! xx

    1. Happy Monday!! We love a BLT too and that first one of the summer did not disappoint. Sorry to hear your farmers market is expensive. I guess every place is different. I didn't really know what the movie was about either, but we really did enjoy it. It has cooled off here and is supposed to be pretty nice through the end of June. I hope they're right. I hope it's a great week for you, my friend!! Hugs!

  11. It's still quite chilly over here, esp. in early mornings. Black cats are very special :-)) My husband quite enjoys the pizza made with flatbread.

  13. Hello!!! I am loving all your meals, my friend! Your zucchini chips look so good. Mine always seem soggy? And that BLT???? Yum! We love the farmers market. I agree with you that the quality is so much better, and I do like to support the local people that work so hard. Plus, Steve goes and I don't have to! You know me! Have a cozy week, and I hope the weather is a bit cooler!

  14. Hi Billie Jo! I put them on a lightly oiled baking sheet and bake for around 25 minutes at 350, and they are nice and crisp. Supporting the local farmers is another reason I buy from them. I really think that is important. It did cool off a bit the last two days which has been really nice. I hope you're have a great week.

  16. Your Food Porn is mouth watering! Our Cat also watches TV, he's rather addicted to the Cartoon "Sponge Bob Square Pants" and I do wonder what Animals think about what they're watching on Media? I have seen TikTok Videos of Animals watching something and then mimicking it. My fav was a Kitten watching Michael Jackson Moonwalk and then doing it, did a better job than I would have too, hilarious tho'. And Dogs tend to like to Mimic Exercise Programs, also doing a pretty good job of doing each Exercise. I think Animals are more intelligent than we give them Credit for.

    1. Thank you. We've had a lot of cats over the years and this is only the second one that has shown any interest in the TV. I've seen a few of the videos with dogs imitating people they see on TV and it is pretty cute. I agree, most animals are very smart.

  18. That farmers market haul is wonderful, especially those fresh tomatoes and zucchini. There’s nothing quite like summer produce that actually tastes like summer. Binx watching videos made me smile, pets really do find the funniest ways to surprise us.
