My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  Mindfully enjoying every moment of every day.  Time goes by so quickly on its own I don't want to rush things.  I want to enjoy every season to the fullest.  I have seen Christmas decorations in the stores for months and I just want to enjoy Fall and all it has to offer. We've passed our leaf color prime but there is still a lot of color to enjoy on our walks and the cool morning weather is just invigorating to me.

Where I've been:  I had a hair appointment this week and had him cut a couple of inches off.  My hair grows so quickly but I guess that is a good thing.  TBG and I found a new breakfast spot and it was delicious.  We've enjoyed lunch there multiple times and now they recently started serving breakfast.  I can't remember the last time I had a Denver omelet that was this good.  It came with hashbrowns, toast and it was all just amazing.

Where I'm going:  Outside of work, I don't have anywhere I really need to go.  No appointments which is always a good thing.  The possibilities are wide open.

What I'm watching:  The British Baking Show.  This season is a lot of fun with great bakers.  My favorite did get kicked off last week.  She seemed like such an awesome person.  I kept thinking, "I wish we were friends".  Do you ever see people like that and think yes, I need this person in my life?

What I'm reading:  Cookbooks.  I dug out The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook to revisit it and look for something new.  I remember my mom buying this book and I was fascinated by it.  I was so happy years ago when she passed it on to me.

What I'm eating:

BIG salad with chicken strips
LO Chili with cornbread
Roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and sliced tomatoes
Shrimp and grits
Shredded BBQ chicken sandwiches with zucchini fries
My soul soothing chicken soup with garlic, cheddar biscuits.  I've tweaked this recipe over the last few years, and it is really delicious.  I'll post the updated version one day this week.

Who needs a good slap:  43 monkeys escaped from a lab in South Carolina.  Whoever is responsible for that needs a few slaps.  I have a lot of questions.  What does this lab do?  Why are we still using animals for various testing?  How did they escape.  I've watched all of the Planet of the Apes for this not to be a bit concerning on many levels.

What's making me smile:  All of the simple moments during the course of a day.  A smile from a coworker, a compliment from a stranger.  Small things like this really do add up and brighten a day.

Enjoy your Sunday and the week ahead!!

  1. I agree - I want to enjoy Thanksgiving a little before starting Christmas shows and decorations. I have shopped, but not for decorations.
I agree with you on the slaps - I just keep asking questions in my head. I would be concerned if it were around me. YES, why is there still animal testing.
Your meals sound wonderful. Have a nice week.

    1. I've watched a few movies but I won't decorate or go full on Christmas until after Thanksgiving.
I would be concerned if it was in my area also. Hope you're having a great Monday.

  2. It drives me crazy seeing Christmas in the stores so early. I only buy things because if I don't they won't be there when I want them. I take them home and put them away while I enjoy the fall season and wait on Thanksgiving.

  4. I have no lack of cookbooks; I should pull a few down and read them, if only for the historical contents. I have my mother's better homes and gardens books from the early 70s complete with 70s coloring and decoration. Quite entertaining

    1. Yes you should pull them out. There is a lot of interesting information in a lot of them besides the recipes. I have my grandmother's Better Homes and Gardens books. The illustrations scream 1970's don't they?

  5. I read about those monkeys escaping - reminded me of the film Outbreak. I hope everything works out and they aren't able to do any damage! Oh and I forgot to mention, I made your white chicken chili for our boardgame evening on Saturday AND the cake you mentioned in your last post - both went down very well so thank you for that. And I love that turkey pushing Santa out of the way. Quite right too!

    1. I'm not logged in. That comment was from Treaders in France!

    2. Oh I forgot about Outbreak. I hope they find them soon. I'm glad you enjoyed the chili and the cake. They are favorites here. Yes, no Santa until the turkey is done.

  6. The monkey thing is so insane. How does that happen??? The picture cracks me up! Fat Boy is what we call squirrels (funny story about my husband and his bird feeder battles years ago). I need a haircut!

    1. It is crazy isn't it? I am not a fan of squirrels but I don't think anyone that gardens or tries to feed birds is. I needed a haircut too and I feel so much better. I hope you're doing well.

  7. Homemade chicken soup or chili is the best. It's the only reason why I still own my rarely used 6qt InstaPot. Even though I'm down to a Dad Bod, even old obese me thinks that first photo is hysterical!

    1. I was never very fond of soups or stews or chilis but I have become a very big fan over the last decade. I think it is due to moving somewhere cooler. No Santa until the turkey is done is what I say. Have a great week.

  8. The stores do tend to rush the seasons. I saw Christmas and Hanukah items prior to Halloween!! My hair grows slowly and I only need 3 haircuts a year. The monkeys could be cause for concern depending on what was going on in that lab!!! Your cartoon with the turkey and Santa is really funny!!

    1. Hi Judee. Same here with the holiday items. I have so many questions about the monkey situation and why we aren't really hearing much about it. I thought it was a cute and appropriate picture.

  9. You certainly can't argue with the philosophy of enjoying each moment! That's very inspiring.
