My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  The holiday season is upon us here in the US!  This week is Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve is one month from today.  I'm excited to celebrate a little bit each day between now and New Years.
Also on my mind, my brother raises turkeys for all of us to enjoy and apparently the black variety of turkey compared to the white variety is moister and juicer.  We're doing a taste test, and I'll let you know.  This is some of them before they went to the processor last week.  Check out that awesome chicken coop my brother built.  He wants to build one for me to start raising chickens, but I politely said no thank you.

Where I've been:  I had an eye appointment My vision hasn't changed much at all over the last two years.  I did a bit of shopping and scored some really good deals on a couple of things for us. I also wanted a new winter coat and found the exact London Fog coat that I was looking for at Kohls.  It was originally 160.00 and I saved 70.47 between the sale price and rewards making it 98.17.  Can't beat that for such a nice coat. I let my gas tank get quite a bit lower than I usually do and I was pleasantly surprised when I had .60 off a gallon making the gas 2.39.  So, I ended up spending much less than I had anticipated.

Where I'm going:  I only work Monday and Tuesday this week.  I have no appointments, so the options are endless.

What I'm watching:  We caught up on Villans and British Bake Off.  Other than that, I didn't watch much TV.  I am noticing that a lot of trees are bare of their leaves and it's looking close to winter.

What I'm reading:  I didn't read much this week either.

What I'm eating:
This week I used a lot of leftovers to make freezer space for Brunswick stew after Thanksgiving.
LO chili made into chili mac with Texas toast.
Chicken pot pie and salad
LO chicken soup with garlic cheese biscuits
LO chicken pot pie and salad
BIG salad
I have beef strips cooking in the crock pot but haven't decided exactly what I want to do with them yet.  I have a couple of options stirring around in my mind.

Who needs a good slap:  Honestly everyone I came in contact this week was kind so no slaps.

What's making me smile:  I watched Sunday Morning on CBS this morning.  It was their annual food show and it was really good.  If you get a chance, watch it.  They had a young girl on their Renad Attallah from Gaza who does cooking segments on Instagram using what food they can get.  Her spirit is contagious.

I hope everyone is well and has a lovely week.  Remember to embrace each day!!

  1. Raising chickens has become popular in the suburbs here and also gets a NO Thanks from me! My eyes skimmed your ‘Who needs a good slap’ and I initially read it as everyone you came in contact with this week 🤣🤣🤣🤣 It gave me a good laugh!

    1. Everyone around our area raises chickens so I can get great eggs for 2-3 dollars a dozen and I'm good. My grandparents raised chickens too and I hated them. It's a big NO for me. Now that would have been a bad week if everyone I came in contact with deserved a slap.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. He raises around 20-25 every year to process right before the holidays. They are so good. I'm so happy to have a two-day work week. Enjoy your Sunday and the week ahead. My comment on your post today was so short because I accidentally hit publish before I was finished. :-)

  3. Years ago my mother's boyfriend, who was an avid hunter, would go out before Thanksgiving and bring home a wild turkey for the day. It has a very different taste to a domestic bird.
    Enjoy your time off. 8-)

    1. I had wild boar before and I know the gamey taste you're talking about. I don't care much for it. Thank you, I plan to enjoy the 5 days to the fullest.

  4. I continue to try to embrace each day if only for the simple gratitude I am alive to have one.

  5. I am with Ur-spo, though I do kind of gripe about adjusting to TheHub being around so much now.

    1. It's very hard to get used to having them around more. I've been there.

    1. He raises them every year so we are spoiled. Yes, I was so happy not only to find the coat I wanted but then to save so much on it.

  7. I know of a lot of people who are into raising chickens. I don't think it would be for me. That's interesting that a black turkey is juicier than a white one

    1. No it's not for me either. We're doing a side by side taste test to see if that is true. He usually raises only the white ones and I always though they were juicy. We'll see.

  8. I commend your brother for raising turkeys for you all! I could not raise an animal for food, personally. I get too attached! I could have chickens for eggs only but they would get to live out their little lives after they stop producing eggs! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. He raises turkeys, meat chickens and egg chickens. I don't know where he finds the time but he does. My grandparents had a large farm so we grew up around it. I developed a dislike of chickens when I was very young so it's a hard pass for me. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!!

  9. $2.39 for gas??? I think the last time I paid that little for gas I wasn't old enough to legally drink. I'm glad you had a great week as well, and give Binx a little nuzzle under the chin for me!

    1. Our gas was more than 5.00 a gallon for awhile. It's down to 2.99 now and the .60 off helped even more. I will gladly give Binx a nuzzle for you.
