My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind: I have loved the downtown areas in every city I have ever lived in and have so many memories from them all. Where we live now has really evolved over the last few years.  We have a number of good restaurants and shops.  The library is there. TBG's Tae kwon do school is there. A number of weekly, monthly and yearly festivals go on there also. Now the city took a large vacant area in the middle and made a gorgeous green space with lots of seating, swings and picnic tables.  It is a great place to hang out during some of the festivals or to just relax and enjoy.  They had an Easter egg hunt there this year and it was so cute to see so many children running around.  I think it is a great addition to our town.

Where I've been:  Wednesday I had a dentist appointment for a cleaning.  All is good except the two back bottom molars that need to come out soon that I've known about.  We went to a grand opening of a furniture restoration business that a couple we know opened.  They do beautiful work, and the store front is very pretty.  Saturday there was a recycling event, so got rid of a few old electronics, went and picked up soil for the gardens and then had a nice lunch at the local BBQ place. The rest of the day and most of Sunday was spent outside working in the yard and on the gardens.  I have a couple of more things to plant (and pick up) and then we're done.  It all looks so nice.  I'll get pictures soon.

Where I'm going:  We have a high school graduation to go to Saturday.  I also want to stop by the orchard to pick up a flowering basket of some kind and a few more things.  They beat the box store prices and products by a mile.

What I'm watching:  We watched Nonna's on Netflix and really enjoyed it.  His lifetime experiences with food are the same as mine so I really felt his story and what he wanted to do. The 'real' guy that started Nonna's has a cameo in the movie so I'm glad I had seen a previous story on the movie to recognize him.

What I'm reading:  Little French Bistro by Nina George and I LOVED it. From the NY Times, "this is an extraordinary novel about self-discovery and new beginnings."  Her writing really puts a picture in your mind of the places and characters.  For me to make time to read a book in a few days tells you just how good it is. It was an unpredictable, heartwarming story.

What I'm eating:
Beef, veggie and cheese quesadillas with rice
Blackened chicken, mashed potatoes and asparagus
BIG salad
Indian chili with cornbread  Culinary Adventures with Lori: 52 Recipes in 52 Weeks #5 Indian Spiced Chili  It was a rainy, slightly chilly day and this hit the spot.
Roasted chicken legs, mac and cheese, coleslaw
Salmon, rice and salad
I tried a new salmon recipe from the latest cookbook I picked up that I can't wait to post about this week.  It was amazing.

Who needs a good slap: People that never have anything good to say and spread their toxicity to everyone around them.  I just don't understand it. The constant complaining, and grumbling is just exhausting.

What's making me smile: This may sound funny to some but checking things off my to do list really makes me smile.  It's good to be able to look back and see what you've accomplished.  Even the little things feel so good to get checked off the list.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!

  1. I hope you have a wonderful week as well. Checking things off makes me smile, too. When I do everything before lunch it's like I literally have the rest of the day to myself.

    1. I used to do that when I worked at the school district and had summers off. I'd get everything done by 10-11 in the morning and have the rest of the day to do whatever I wanted. I miss those days.

  2. I am in agreement about constant grumbling and complaining folks (Though I think I griped way to much about my driver's license fiasco)
Glad to hear your thumbs up for Nonna's. I have it downloaded to my phone to watch on an upcoming car trip.

    1. You had a legit thing to complain about. That was a total mess. I see a few (that I work with) complain about the smallest little things. It's crazy.
Yes, you'll enjoy the movie. It's a good one.

  3. I just got off the phone with my youngest brother grumbling and complaining about life and he does nothing to help himself. But I listened like a good sister!

  4. I agree with you in the 'slap' category. I just don't understand it. Being kind and thoughtful is easier to me than being a nasty, griping bird.
It sounds like you had a lovely week.

    1. I don't understand either. I would get tired of listening to myself.

  5. I love checking things off the list! Constant complainers physically, mentally, and emotional EXHAUST me! I read the Nina George book a few years ago and remember really liking it!

  6. I have a to-do list and it makes me smile to cross an item off. Sometimes (because I procrastinate) it takes me awhile, but I finally get there.

    1. I keep a yearly project list and also have a weekly to do list. When I don't get something done I put an arrow next to it and put it on the next weeks list so I can see how long it actually took me to get around to it. That seems to motivate me to get it done.

  7. While I've lived in the country for many years, having worked in central Geneva for 35 years was a treat. Just to go out and have a coffee on the lake front was like being on vacation. Best of both worlds I guess!

    1. That is the best of both worlds. I enjoyed living in SW Florida because of the beauty and the perks but I was not a fan of the crowds and traffic.

  8. I totally agree about checking things off the to-do list. I've been keeping a list on my desk of things I want to accomplish. It's amazing how many of them I've been able to cross off. At the moment I don't have anything on mine so it's time to start thinking of things I want to get done.

  9. Sounds like a busy week! I love our little downtown too and at least drive there to walk in the morning a few times a week. The only downside is whenever there is an event it's so crowded and parking is expensive! I llove checking things off my to-do list, too!

    1. Downtowns are just so much fun to walk around in. There is plenty of free parking within walking distance at ours when there are events. But the fall festival which is a huge event requires more of a walk.

  10. I have a wisdom tooth that needs to come out but because i am on Prolia injections, it's very difficult to do. Eek! Teeth are the bane of my life :=) I love to see that Commons area; wonderful that cities are being used for people to enjoy.

    1. I haven't had a tooth pulled in 20+ years so I'm a bit stressed about it but it has to be done. I love downtown areas and am always so happy when they're are thriving. It's good for a community.

  11. Ugh tooth extractions are never fun. But it does give you an excuse to eat ice cream. I love that you have such a nice downtown area. We don't have one in our town but we have some nice cities nearby.
I 100% agree with your slaps..

    1. I'm not looking forward to it. It's been more than 20 years since I had to have one pulled. Something about downtowns have always been a draw to me.

  13. Things off the to-do list is a nice thing for sure. I have Vince's movie lined up, not yet watched it. Right now my brain is on educational stuff though when it's ready to enjoy stuff like that, the movie will be there.

    3. To-Do lists are wonderful! They keep you on track and it's so much fun to draw a line through that last item! I love areas like The Commons. I know you'll enjoy that! xoxo

    4. I would be lost without my lists. I have to get things out of my head and on paper. It is a nice area to relax and people watch.
