My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  We are coming to the end of another summer.  I know technically we still have a few weeks, but Labor Day weekend has always been my signal that summer is ending, and it is next weekend. This summer we enjoyed a number of pool days, and I read a number of books sitting out in the sun. BBQs and grilling were the norm most weekends and we enjoyed a couple of road trips. The garden did well, and the farmers market was hopping every week. I have a lot of summer produce put up to enjoy in the fall and winter.  I love fall and winter but I also enjoy a lot that summer offers, and I intend to enjoy these next few weeks as she fades away for another year.

Where I've been:  We had two appointments this week and I made a trip to the farmer's market.  Other than that, I've been between work and home.

Where I'm going:  No appointments this week which is always a good thing.  Next weekend we're either going to take a road trip or have a BBQ.  I'm waiting to hear the final plans for the others as either sounds good to me.

What I'm watching:  Fit for TV: Reality of Biggest Looser on Netflix.  We watched the Biggest Looser when it came on in 2004 and like all reality shows this one had a lot going on behind the scenes.  We also got caught up on Family Recipe Showdown.

What I'm reading:  Sadly, I'm still not finished with the book I've been reading for a couple of weeks.  Hopefully this week I'll get the last few chapters in and start a new book.

What I'm eating:
Blackened chicken, garlic smashed potatoes and sliced tomatoes
Chicken sausage with peppers, onions and tomatoes over pasta with bread sticks.  SO good.

BLT with zucchini 'fries'
Fried hot honey chicken sandwich with coleslaw
BIG salad
Pizza and salad

Tonight, we're having Coho salmon with tbd sides.

Who needs a good slap:  I had to go in at 4am on Monday to round in the hospital.  I asked why and was told all leaders are required to do it twice a year to touch base with the night shift.  I already come in at 5:30 every morning to see the two in my department that work nights but that doesn't count.  Departments that do not have their manager need rounded on.  What?  Have everyone occasionally come in to see their staff.  It was pointless and a waste of time.  I give this project three slaps.  Waking up at 3am is brutal.

What is making me smile:  This is the second box of these chocolates that I've been given, and I think they are now my new favorites.  They are so delicious, and the bite size pieces are perfect for a quick treat.

It's a lot cooler today and low temps this week are high 40's and low 50's with only high temps in the 70's.  I know we'll get more hot days but I am going to enjoy this cool front while it is here.
I hope everyone enjoys their week.

  1. I wish it were cooler here. The interior temperatures of my home are brutal right now. Ceiling and pedestal fans aren't enough. It's another reason why I can't wait to go back to Callaway midweek.

    1. That does not sound good at all. I hope it cools down a bit soon. I am spoiled by AC here and would be miserable without it. Enjoy your trip.

  2. Sorry you had such an early morning. Sounds like a pretty good week. The meals sound amazing.
I am enjoying our 'false' fall while I can. Yes indeed, it will get hot again - then boom it will be winter.

  3. I am mad-jealous about those temperatures. I miss them.

    1. It is one of the main reasons I wanted to move back here. I was tired of the four seasons being warm, hot, hotter and brutally hot.

  4. 3 AM wake up is brutal! I hope the Coho salmon is good. If I’m being perfectly honest, I think that farm raised salmon always has better flavor than wild caught, but I’ve never seen anyone else say that.

    1. It is! We get ours from Sea 2 Table and we love it. It is so fresh and delicious.

  5. I guess waking up at 3 am in the summer is preferable to waking up at 3 am in the winter but either way, it sounds a bit over zealous to me!

    1. If it actually was for something positive I can see it but rounding on other departments makes no sense to me. Nothing came out of it so to me, it was a waste of time.

  6. I've always thought of Labor Day as the start of fall even though the calendar doesn't say so.
3am is brutal. I used to get up that early every Sunday when I was working the bakery.

    1. Me too. When I was a kid we didn't go back to school until after Labor Day so it is the official end of summer for me. 4:30 getting up is bad enough, 3am is too early. I'm sure you don't miss that.

  7. You are a great employe and a good boss and yes, they need to be slapped. I love slapping people. What is wrong with me?

  9. There were a few shifts where I woke at 3 and had to leave and be there just before 5 and drive in winter highway, big trucks next to me, snow. On the one hand, I'm proud of myself for doing that and on the other hand, I dunnnnoooowaaaaannnnna do that again.

    Foods sound good.

Hope you get to read some more outside before it gets too cold. Though I love a good crispy fall day for reading outside with a nice big cuppa.

    Yum.

    1. Hello. Yes 3am is not a fun time to get up.
I'm sure I will get more reading time in. As long as the sun is out, I could sit outside all day reading even when it is cooler.

  10. It's been a good summer for us and I am sorry to see it come to an end. Not looking forward to winter. The Farmers Almanac predicts an above average snow and cold for this area but they are only 20% right most of the time! Sorry you had to go into work that early. Those chocolates do look so good!

    1. I'm so glad you had a good summer. Our winters aren't as brutal as some so I don't mind them. If we had LONG cold, snowy winters I don't know if I could handle that. The chocolates are very good.

  11. Since I retired from teaching high school, summer doesn't end for me until the end of September - we have had a little cooler weather, but I'm confident that the heat will return for an Indian Summer. Waking at 3 and going in at 4 AM must have been exhausting- so crazy. If I get up too early my day is often ruined because I am too tired. Enjoy your chocolate!

    1. We will definitely have more heat too, I'm sure. I just think each department manager should be coming in to touch base with their night shift staff like I do instead of having everyone take turns rounding. But what do I know? I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so these are perfect as a one bite little fix. Enjoy the weekend!

  12. We had a pretty lousy summer this year...mostly rainy, cloudy and even when sun came out, it was just not HOT enough to be summer. Love what you have been eating...delicious and so nutritious.
