Things That Make Me Smile-Memory Lane

When I run across photos of things I remember from my younger days I usually save them.  Why I'm not sure so I decided to do a post with some of them to delete them off my computer.  It's funny the things you totally forgot about that were so very important to you back then.  Maybe that's why I'm not much of a consumer anymore and don't like a lot of 'stuff.' I grew up and realized it's all not really important.  But a lot of things were different back then and I did like my 'stuff.'

I had a few pairs of these but Candies shoes were my favorites.  And remember Dr. Scholl's sandals?  I had quite a few pairs of them in various colors.

Yes, I had these exact same socks.

A lot of birthday cakes had these on them.  They tasted horrible.

I did use these.  I remember the watermelon flavor well.

I remember all of this from our kitchen and my grandparents.

I can't tell you how many hours I spent doing this.

This was my bedroom set from 7 years old until I moved out at 18.  When I was about 15                              I decided I no longer wanted a canopy so it became a four poster bed.  I loved it.

What are some of the things that you remember from your childhood/younger days that are no longer around?

  1. Lori- It's fun to go down memory Lane. I certainly remember the kitchen things in the collage especially the "avocado" colors! I remember a lot of the things you shared!

    1. It is fun sometimes to see things I've totally forgotten about. Our kitchen was avocado everywhere.

  2. Thank you for the great memories. The only one I didn’t recognize were the Lip Lickers. We used Bonne Bell Lipsmackers, which was a local company. I had a very similar bedroom set. My daughters split it up and now Middle Child uses the bed board and dresser and my oldest daughter passed down the nightstand and highboy to her daughters! Years ago, I updated the hardware and painted the trim silver to replace the gold.

    1. You didn't use Lip Lickers? It was a tin that the lid slid open and was pretty awesome lip gloss. I had the bed, one night stand, the dresser and the hutch. I think my mom sold it after I left home. That's awesome that yours is still in the family.

    1. Funny thing is TBG wears toe socks now but in black. They're really good for your feet.

  7. Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Am I too old to admit I picked up a MINI Cooper S at the dealership a few weeks ago that I can't drive? It's a "pull back" car that has motorized rear wheels. It sits at my writing desk.

    1. My brother loved hot wheels and matchbox cars too and Legos. You're never too old for something that makes you smile.

  8. I still have toe socks. I got them not too long ago, so they’re still available. They’re not all that easy putting on, but they are super comfortable and really keep my feet warm.

  9. I'm not Bossy here, love it all and had most of the items, but the Canopy Bed. Sissy and I wanted one so badly, but alas it never materialized. We lived!

    1. I loved sleeping under the canopy when I was young. By the time I was 15 or 16 I was tired of it and just used the four posters.

  10. The platform wedges are in again and I bought a pair earlier this year. I do remember those sugar candies things for cake decoration.. you can still buy them. Such a fun blast from the past.

    1. I saw they are in again and I am looking for a pair again. They were always so comfortable. I wonder if the cake decorations now taste any better.

  12. Great memories! I loved Candies shoes and practically lived in my Dr. Scholls wood sandals! I also remember the pain when my foot would slip and I would step on the side of them! I would have given anything for your bedroom set! All my furniture was used as my parents could not afford new bedroom sets for us!

    1. It all is good memories. I loved Candies and Dr. Scholls and yes, I remember that pain a time or two. I was an only child until I was 11 so it was financially easier on my parents, I think.

    1. Me too. They still make them but in solid colors and TBG wears them frequently. They are supposed to be really good for your feet. We didn't know that back then though did we?

  14. Hi Lori! First time commenter but long time follower. I recently found the Lip Lickers glosses at the Cracker Barrel shop, they also had the Kissing Potions in the little clear bottles with the roller ball top that my sister and I grew up with. I just had to buy a few to share with my sister. We both spent many hours creating outfits with the Fashion Plates too. Thank you for this nostalgic trip! Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Laura. Nice to know you've been a long time follower. I will have to check Cracker Barrel here and see if they have them. Kissing Potions were also great, I had forgotten about them. Yes Fashion Plates were so much fun. I loved creating outfits and coloring them all with different colors. Wishing you a great week also!!

    2. I don't have internet on my phone - though I do have one billion pictures that I took. But I'm okay with that. I'm a photographer. Love me some pictures. Sounds like you found a groove that works for you too!
