My Week

Happy Sunday everyone!!  I can't believe the weekend is almost over.  Why do they have to go by so quickly?

Last Sunday and Monday we had a taste of winter weather.  It was cold and snowy, but nothing stuck since we still haven't had a freeze yet and then Friday and Saturday were in the 70's.  Talk about weather whiplash.  I went out this morning and cut more rosemary and sage and then added more leaves all around the plants to keep them warm this winter.

TBG announced last week that he doesn't want turkey for Thanksgiving.  WHAT??  He said he would prefer to have another pot roast like I cooked a few weeks ago.  It was really good but SERIOUSLY??  So, I guess I will make pot roast, a bone in turkey breast or a small 12–13-pound bird with the usual sides.  They should all go well with his pot roast.  Not having turkey is not an option for me. I don't want to miss a Thanksgiving weekend without a cold turkey sandwich and a pot of Brunswick stew.

This week I have a dental cleaning and TBG needs to get in to his doctor regarding some issues he is having, but other than that, we don't have any commitments which is fine with me since I also have to work all week.  Saturday, we do need to do a bit of shopping since we are very close to the time of year that I protest entering most stores. Our beef bundle will be coming this week too so I reorganized the freezer so there is room.

I've been looking through the last two cookbooks I picked up, and I see a lot of recipes I want to try in both of them.  I am glad I was able to visit The Back in the Day Bakery around 2004 in Savannah and everything we tried was delicious.  I was sad when I heard they had closed.

What we've been eating:
BIG salad x 2
Chicken taco rice bowls
Beef and cheese sliders and 'fries'.  It's been many years since I've actually had a slider because I honestly just never thought about them, but our last beef bundle included a package of premade ones, and they really did hit the spot.

Chicken sausage with veggies and pasta
LO lamb and potato hand pies with a small salad.  These freeze so well and are so nice to have on a night you don't feel like cooking.

This morning, I made an apple pie for us to enjoy with some of our bounty of apples.

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the season.  Thanksgiving will be here before we know it and then BAM...Christmas. So be sure to slow down and enjoy each day.  I remind myself daily.

  1. I didn't grow up with turkey or eat turkey so for me, it wouldn't matter. But I do get that some folks HAVE to have that leftover turkey the next day. I get that part as I do love me some leftovers.

    Weekends go toooooo fast!

  2. Unfortunately, my oven died and I haven't replaced it. We'll be going out for dinner this year. I'm glad you're still going to make turkey for yourself, the leftovers are definitely the best part! I hope all goes well at the dentist and doctor for you and TBG this week. I love seeing and hearing about what you make it week, everything always looks delicious. Have a great week my friend, and thank you for your beautiful comment over at my place today. Hugs!

  3. I am like you - I have to have that turkey sandwich after Thanksgiving! Turkey Manhattan's is another favorite.
We had the same weather as you - it is so crazy.
    Have a great week.

    1. Yes Cheryl!! A turkey sandwich is so good. The weather has been crazy, and I never seem to be dressed appropriately as I'm either hot or freezing. I hope you have a great week also.

  4. I am turkey indifferent, but can't imagine Thanksgiving without it. We are going to Oregon for the holiday so I say I will not be cooking, but I am sure I will at Son1's house.

  5. I’m not a big fan of turkey, but there would be a revolt here without it! I made a big harvest salad for dinner tonight. It’s one of my faves. We had 3-4 inches of snow Monday/Tuesday. I’m over it already 😵‍💫

    1. No turkey is not going to happen here. Your harvest salad sounds delicious. We had flurries but no accumulation.

    1. Many years ago, we at out for Thanksgiving dinner and it was OK but the fact that I had no leftovers for a turkey sandwich or Brunswick stew really got to me. The leftovers are the best.

  8. Well, I do think pot roast is much tastier :-)) When I eat poultry, I basically just eat skin and a few bites of thighs..

  9. I recently discovered some very old cook books from the 1970s when I was still a teenager living at home and experimenting with cooking. Those recipes were so good and everyone enjoyed them, especially my mom because she didn't have to cook them!

  11. Every year I look forward to turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy poured over both. I only have that once a year! I bought an extra turkey breast this year for sandwiches later, too. I'm like you and try not to have to go into a store between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Happy Thanksgiving to you and TBG!

    1. We only have turkey once or twice a year also, so I was surprised when he said he didn't want turkey. His tastes buds have changed quite a bit the last few months. I don't care for shopping much to begin with, but the winter holiday months are absolutely the worst. I plan on having all we need by next week and being done for a while. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Jeanette!!

  12. At home, I have two Marie Callendar's turkey dinners as usual but this time I'm going to pair a wine with them. I don't know if it'll be that Josh Pinot Noir I got from the hotel or a Zinfandel I picked up from Callaway recently. I'm now a huge fan of the Friendsgiving events at those wineries. I have one coming up this Saturday.

    1. Turkey for thanksgiving is a tradition to me that I don't want to change. I'm glad you're all set for your turkey dinner. I know nothing about wine pairings, but it sounds like you've really learned a lot this year. I'm so glad you have found the wineries in your area and have been having so much fun. The food does all look amazing.

  13. Do you host thanksgiving? I am personally not a fan of turkey as it is a little on the drier side but once a year I don't mind it. Though we are usually travelling around the holidays.. so I can't really recall that last time I had any.

    1. I usually do host thanksgiving. But it will be the two of us this year. Our family thanksgiving will be Saturday at my brothers.

  14. You got snow? I did not get snow. It was cold and blustery, but then like you said it went up into the 70s over the weekend. This fluctuating weather is wreaking havoc on my sinuses. I think pot roast for Thanksgiving is sacrilege. I only make a turkey once a year, but I definitely want it at Thanksgiving and nothing else will do.

    1. Yes, we had flurries of snow for most of that Monday. It did not accumulate though. This weather been causing me issues also with sinuses and headaches and I rarely have problems with either. I agree it is sacrilege and he has since been convinced of the error of his thinking. We are having a proper Thanksgiving meal with turkey as the star dish. I can be persuasive when I really need to be. ;)

  15. I'm heading to the dentist this week for a crown. Not looking forward to that one :( Funny how weather is so different - we have been having huge storms with huge hail and winds and horizontal rain. More expected every day this week!! Eek! Have fun.
