My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  Meet Elijah. This cute baby goat was born this week at the farm we buy a lot of our food from and she asked for names.  I suggested Elijah and she agreed it was a perfect name for him.  She said he loves to be held especially during a bottle, and I am so excited to go meet him Friday when I get off of work.  I wanted to go yesterday but it was too cold for all of us.

Where I've been:  I worked all week and that was brutal.  They just did the third downsize in the last six years and a number of people I've known for years lost their jobs and were walked out due to NO fault of their own.  Corporations are making people do two or three jobs now and expect you to feel lucky to just have a job.  It's only going to get worse as healthcare is expected to be one of the largest sectors that are going to lose jobs to AI.  Just imagine going to work like you have done for the last 20 years or more and walk in to be told you are done, you will get 18 weeks of severance and then be walked out.  It's just not right.

Where I'm going:  Thankfully I have no appointments or commitments this week outside of work.  I will go out to pick up a few things at the farm and meet Elijah on Friday and Saturday we're getting out of town for the day.  Other than that, we'll see what comes up.

What I'm watching:  I've taken some down time the last two weeks to watch a number of movies I've been wanting to see on Netflix, and I really enjoyed them all quite a bit.
Elenore The Great
About My Father
Flipped
Moxie
The Family Next Door

What we ate:

Big salad with chicken and a yeast roll
LO lamb and potato hand pies with a salad
Meat loaf, mac and cheese and green beans
Chicken fajita and rice bowls with a cheese roll up
Veggie pizza and salad

Applewood chicken sausage with pesto pasta and a salad

Who needs a good slap:  See where I've been for that answer.

Who deserves a fist pump:  We all need to continue to not buy things that are not aligned with what we want but someone like him stepping up and calling them out, helps too.
Brad Reesethe grandson of the inventor of Reese's Peanut Butter Cupshas publicly criticized The Hershey Company for allegedly replacing traditional ingredients like milk chocolate and peanut butter with cheaper substitutes. In an open letter, he accused the company of damaging the brand's legacy by altering the recipe, which he believes has eroded consumer trust. He expressed his disappointment over the changes, stating that some products, like Reese's Mini Hearts, are no longer edible.

What is making me smile:  TBG is finally feeling a LOT better, and we both couldn't be happier.  He's had a few rough patches the last two years or so and it feels so nice to have him doing well.  It's so hard to watch someone you love go through things with their health.

I hope everyone is doing well!!

I'm sorry about your work. I was just talking about this to my DIL - how hard it is when there isn't enough staff and still you are supposed to get the same amount of work done.
I keep hearing Eleanor the Great is so good. I really need to watch it.
Very interesting point from Brad Reese. I hadn't heard this, good for him.
    Hooray for TBG doing better!

    1. Isn't he adorable.
Thanks, I just hate seeing this happening. Most of us here are now responsible for at least two jobs and some days are very hard. The worst is not having local people on site for most of the jobs. They've all gone work from home or have been contracted out. It is difficult to know who to call when you need anything.
I did enjoy Eleanor the Great.
Yes, we need people like Mr. Reese to speak out on things like this.
Thank you, it is a big relief to have him feeling better now.

  2. Aw, Elijah is adorable.
That sounds awful at work. I think replacing humans with AI is such a bad choice. Healthcare needs humans not computers.

This was a local independent hospital that was amazing to work for until a large corporation bought it out six or seven years ago. They've really ruined a lot.

  3. It sounds like we are getting to the point where saying ‘representative’ is not going to work anymore when calling health insurance and medical providers. That is very worrisome. I’m sorry that work has turned so depressing. That must be so difficult.

I did hear about Reese’s and that Hershey claimed they have not changed the ingredients. Like we believe that 🙄

    1. I've watched the changes over the last six or seven years and none of them have been good for employees or patients at our hospital. It is very sad and infuriating to watch.
I think him calling them out is wonderful and I hope more people like him do the same.

  5. I couldn't imagine losing my job through no fault of my own after 20 years!!!!! And depending on your age, trying to find another one. Oh my goodness, those poor people. I've heard a lot about AI taking people's jobs but this is the first time I've seen it in action!!!! My son (the plumber) said last week he was so glad that at least he couldn't be replaced by AI but it really is scary stuff isn't it!

    1. It is heartbreaking to see for all the reasons you mention. Everyone that I know about is over 50.
I am so glad that a lot of the younger generation around here is also learning a trade like plumbing or electrical and I think that is very smart.

Sorry about all the problems going on at work. I am so thankful to not be in the workforce any longer.
Hope this week is less stressful. Glad TBG is feeling so much better.

Yes, be glad. It's a whole new experience now.
Thank you. It is a relief to have him feeling better finally.

  7. My late aunt who lives outside San Antonio had goats, and they were fun pets. I'm also not a fan of those layoffs. They mirror mine five years ago. A lot of us that were 50+ lost our jobs due to AI taking over most of the work.

    1. My grandparents always had goats, and they really are so much fun. I knew you would understand exactly what I'm talking about. It's brutal watching this happen all around you and seeing the poor outcomes from all of it.

  8. Elijah is so, so cute! Corporate entities should not be allowed to own hospitals or medical clinics. When people are no longer employed while AI takes over have any of these brilliant people thought about who will buy their stuff?

  9. How do we stop AI? So frustrating. Praying for the people that are losing jobs. Joyce pa

So glad TBG is feeling better! Great news!
Reeses are my favorite, but I only eat one at Christmas, and I didn't know they had changed the recipe. :(
I'm sorry work has been so stressful. Big corporations are the worst. Dh has been through several layoffs, and it is hard. I'm sure that AI will take over his job in the next few years.

We are so glad TBG is finally feeling like himself again.
Yes, employers are not what they used to be but then again, nothing is.
I hope your husband isn't affected.

  12. We are living in such a crazy world right now. They are firing everyone, poisoning us, increasing insurance and medication costs and then wonder why everyone is struggling.
    Cute baby goat.

  16. Veggie pizza! I haven’t had veggie pizza in ages, but now I’m craving it. It generally makes too much, but I’m wondering if I couldn’t share it with my number two son and his wife. I need to give it some thought.

  17. Health is everything. Glad TBG is feeling good. I always appreciate your movie/ show suggestions since I'm always on the lookout for a new show to watch. The layoff situation is scary and sad. My DIL was just laid off on Friday with 60 others for downsizing . She was there about 10 years. The new baby goat is adorable. Have a good week.

    1. Health is everything Judee. I read somewhere that you could have a dozen problems, but when you have a health problem you really only have one. I have found that to be true. I'm glad you like the movie recommendations, I'm always looking for them too. I'm sorry to hear you DIL was laid off. It is unfortunately happening to a lot of people. Wishing you a good week too!

  18. Sooooo glad he's feeling better. That's the best news of the day.

Yes, on the not buying things that don't algin. There are some things, way before all this up pricing started, that I stopped buying. No thank you. Like Boca burgers that say original recipe but then how come when Kraft bought them, the salt was raised and the taste was gross?

Cheap, cheap, cheap and a big no thank you from me.

    1. Thank you, Ivy. It is so good to have him feeling better finally.
I stopped buying certain things years ago for many reasons. With food, it is the ingredients that I look at. I will do without. So many of them are completely different ingredients than they originally were and it's not good health wise.
Way to vote with your dollars. If these companies keep losing money, they will have to change.
