What's top of my mind: The last two and a half years have been really hard when it comes to TBG's health. There have been a lot of downs with so many doctor visits, tests, surgery, fighting with insurance, unknowns, etc. There also have been a lot of ups because of our faith, our friends and family and trying to keep a positive mindset. I wouldn't have ever thought it was possible, but our marriage is even stronger now. At the end of May he had two different tests at SLU that finally gave us the answers we've been searching so hard for. There is no cure however it is manageable. He started the new medication last week and is doing well with it. Mentally we are both in a much better place which is so important and we are just so thankful for everything.
Where I've been: We've taken a lot of walks this week since the weather has been tolerable. Friday, we went to dinner at the Elk's and had a really great time. Yesterday TBG dragged took me to see Super Girl. It actually was a pretty good movie and we both enjoyed it. It focused on a lot more of the human side of things like last summer's Superman did.
Where I'm going: Tuesday I have a dental cleaning. Friday, I plan to go to the farm and the farmer's market. The weather is supposed to be in the high 90's with a lot of humidity, so we'll probably opt for the gym instead of walks. Other than that, we plan to enjoy being at home. We've had a very busy couple of months, and we just want to hang out at home for a while.
What I'm watching: We watched I Will Find You on Netflix. It was a really great series, and we both enjoyed it a lot.
What I'm eating:
BBQ chicken, pesto mac and cheese, cucumber, tomato and red onion 'salad'
BIG salad with garlic toast and stuffed mushrooms (I need to make stuffed mushrooms more often, SO good)
LO veggie pasta and garlic bread
Catfish, hush puppies, baked potato, corn and salad at the Elks.
Tonight we're having lamb burgers, zucchini 'fries' and sliced tomatoes. The tomatoes are so delicious I could eat them every day.
What is making me smile: We've gotten a lot of rain over the last two or three days which we desperately needed, and everything is so green again.
Also, if you're looking for an AMAZING chocolate treat you must try this. I found them at Aldi and even though I do not have much of a sweet tooth, I am in love with these.
I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week!!
Dealing with health issues can be so trying. I'm glad that things are looking up. I just saw chocolates like that at Walmart yesterday. I had never heard of them before and wondered if they were any good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann. It really is stressful on so many levels. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I really love this. You should definitely give it a try.
DeleteGlad to know that TBG is doing well with new medication. I am going to ALDI later, and need to a couple of that chocolate bars for my husband :-) Vine ripe tomatoes do taste so much better, don't they?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angie. Having a solid diagnosis and treatment plan is such a relief. Yes, do try the chocolate. It is so good.
Deletei know what you mean about health issues. Hubby has prostate cancer then he fell and put a fracture in his neck then i got diagnosed with thyroid cancer a couple of weeks ago. Oh my! really hard times! Glad to hear your hubby has some answers
ReplyDeletesherry
I am so sorry to hear all of this Sherry. I didn't know about the fracture or your recent diagnosis. That is so much to be dealing with. Prayers and hugs for you both!!
DeleteThat's so good about your husband being able to manage his health needs. Days are more precious. I wish we had some warnings, or at least enough of a warning that might have forced my H to act. I'll always hold guilt and regret that I should have done something. To brighter things, I m looking forward to salads a few times a week with my greens and looking forward to farmers markets. I'll probably get a few container tomatoes. I'm not giving up yet on my beans and cucumbers but things don't look promising.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We've always appreciated everything and each day but now after the last few years, we really appreciate everything and everyone even more. Fresh garden veggies are the best, aren't they? Hopefully your garden will pull through.
DeleteSo happy you have answers now about TBG;s health and that things are manageable. Breathe now!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou meals sound delish - hope you enjoy your weekend and just chillax!
Thank you, Cheryl. It's been a long, emotional bumpy road, but we made it. We do plan to really chillax over the three-day weekend. Stay cool!!
DeleteExcellent food. Very good news regarding TBG. Such a relief.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It is good to finally have a solid diagnosis.
DeleteI'm glad to hear TBG is doing better now. I always see those Dubai chocolates at Vons but I have yet to try one. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Treat yourself because they are worth it. I hope you have a great week also!
DeleteHi Lori~ Thank you for stopping by my blog. After such a long hiatus, I truly don't expect too many to find me. 😂🤣 But, I'm glad you found me, because you are one of my favorites! I'm so glad you found the answers you need to move forward with TBG's health concerns. I can truly sympathize with you on all of the complications and insurance issues. Isn't it funny how those things can bring you closer to each other? I found that my husband and I felt more in love than ever after the health issues in the past few years. Your dinners always make me change my boring menu! Keeping you both in my prayers. Hugs and Love, Barb
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see you post and hear what has been going on in your life. That is what has happened to us. Our love for each other is stronger than ever and we are even closer which I didn't think we could be, but here we are. Watching him struggle with his health and him watching me trying to hold it all together really made us realize how blessed we are to have each other. I will be keeping you in my prayers as well. Big hugs.
DeleteI have heard really good things about that netflix show. That is on my list to start with my husband tonight when he gets the carpet cleaning done.
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoyed it.
DeleteYour meals always look so tempting!!! I know you have someone to cook for but you certainly seem to go above and beyond. Oh and I'm so glad you're getting somewhere with TBG's health. It's a worry but to know that this new medication is helping must be a relief for both of you!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Cooking is my stress relief for the day plus I don't like eating the same thing all the time. lol
DeleteYes, it has been a huge relief knowing exactly what is going on now and to have a plan to slow the progression.
So glad you are finally on the right track with your Husbands health. I so know the fight with insurance etc. so scary when it is someone you love. Pulling two large basil plants this week and replanting more. Making my first batch of Pesto!
ReplyDeleteNot Bossy-Kay
Thank you. I have three large pots of basil now and am going to start another batch soon. I still have three cubes of pesto from last summer, so I did pretty good. Now if I can just remember how much I froze.
DeleteI'm glad you finally got some answers on TG's health and he is on doing better now. I'm sorry you had a hard few months dealing with it all. I hope the rest of the summer is much better for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette. I hope you are enjoying summer.
DeleteGood to hear you two got some answers regarding TG's health.. Looks like some good meals. I want to watch Super Girl as well., good to hear it was good.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We did enjoy Super Girl.
DeleteI feel like you guys are like Tim and I. Very close and yet, these things can make it even a stronger bond which is amazingly cool. I’m sorry there is no cure. Very happy that it’s manageable.
ReplyDeleteLove hanging home!
Excellent on the ALDI finds for the chocolate.
We've always been extremely close, but this definitely brought us to an entirely different level that is hard to explain. Hearing there is no cure is a bit to process but we have strong faith and believe that no one is promised tomorrow so we're making the best of each day.
DeleteBeing home is my favorite place to be and yes, the chocolate from Aldi is addicting.
Yes, I understand that 100%.
DeleteThank you for coming by and asking about the extractions. I leave in about an hour. Just sitting at the desk with a cuppa before getting dressed.
I'm going to have to check out that netflix series.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about the health challenges. I KNOW how that one goes, and when it's chronic (aka forever), there's such a HUGE burden that people can't see and often don't understand. Glad you have answers. Sending a little extra love and cheese your way!
Thank you.
DeleteDealing with health issues can be very stressful. It is good that it had brought you closer together . It must be a relief to find some answers. Dealing with insurance companies adds unnecessary stress . I have yet to teste Dubai chocolate despite seeing it everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIt is stressful Judee and insurance delays really add to it. It seems you have to fight for everything. I hadn't tried Dubai chocolate until now and I highly recommend this one. It is so good.
DeleteDeus caritas est!
ReplyDeleteYes He is.
DeleteHello, my friend. I am happy you got some answers. Together you will deal with whatever comes your way. Have a cozy afternoon, and stay cool. Our time is coming!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Billie Jo!! I'm enjoying all of the fresh produce of summer but yes, our time is coming. Have a great weekend.
DeleteI'm so glad you got the rain you needed. We could use some more but currently it's nothing but blue blazes out there, haha! Your food looks good -- especially those tomatoes! I am addicted to tomatoes too. Now I'm craving a BLT hahaha ... I'm so glad that TBG is on an even keel with his health. Love you girl xoxo
ReplyDeleteYes, we really needed rain and now we will again soon with all of this heat and humidity. We're breaking all kinds of records for heat. I do love tomatoes and a BLT. Thank you. TBG is doing much better. Enjoy the Holiday weekend!! Big love and hugs.
DeleteMy tomatoes are just starting to come in so I can't wait to start putting them to good use. I've seen that chocolate bar at Aldi, but always passed it by. I won't next time. Happy Fourth of July!
ReplyDeleteYes, fresh tomatoes are so delicious. I have too but decided to try it and I am so glad I did. It really is very good. Happy 4th of July Pattie!
DeleteI brings me joy to know you/spouse are doing well despite strains and such. Well done! Good for you I say! 💪🏻
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm sorry about TBG's continued health issues, but glad you got some answers and a plan moving forward. I also feel that my marriage has improved with age. Thank you for the review on the Dubai chocolate because I've never tried it and have read bad reviews in the past (not for that particular brand).
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend. It is a relief to have solid answers both mentally and physically for us both. I haven't tried any other brand, but I will say I think this one is amazing and like I said, I really don't have much of a sweet tooth.
Deletei think Supergirl is played by an aussie actor. I did read some scathing reviews but that was by a bloke - so...
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a cute movie. Nothing oscar worthy but fun.
Deleteoh yes glad to hear you have some answers in regard to your hubby's health. My hubby and myself have been in the wars this year, with lots still to be sorted. I had another test last week - a nasal endoscopy - i.e. a camera up the nose! such fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope things are going well with you both. Health issues are difficult to manage and cope with sometimes. Nasal endoscopy does NOT sound like fun.
