My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  The first week of June was pretty peaceful and uneventful which I completely love and needed.  May had a lot of ups and downs and I'm happy to see it go.

Where I've been:  We went to Newell's and found a new chair for the living room, and it was delivered Tuesday.  We both love it and it mixes perfectly with everything else in the room plus it is very comfortable.  The recliner we had was only about seven years old, but it was really uncomfortable so now we are good to go.

We went out for lunch Saturday to Twisted Twins and enjoyed smash burgers and shared an order of jalapeno mac and cheese bites.  SO good! The weather was perfect for an outside lunch.
We've gotten back to walking every afternoon when I get off of work.  Sometimes we walk around the neighborhood and other times we meet at the hospital to walk around the track there.

Where I'm going:  Friday I want to stop by the farmers market and Saturday we have an outside concert to go to if the weather is good.  I also need to pick a few things up one day this week. I plan to spend a lot of time outside reading if the rain holds off too.

What I'm watching:  We finished the first season of The Buroughs yesterday that we started a couple of weeks ago and we both really enjoyed it. We also watched Senior Year on Netflix which was a pretty cute movie that we both enjoyed.  I also watched the second season of Four Seasons and enjoyed. All on Netflix

What I'm reading:  I'm almost finished with Into The Magic Shop by James R. Doty, MD.  It's funny when I started reading it I remembered very vividly my 4th grade teacher going over a lot of these techniques in gym class.  We would do it once or twice a week in the winter on our mats in the gym when we couldn't go outside. This week I started meditating again because I really want to be able to calm myself a bit easier than it's been lately.  Thank you so much for recommending this one Judee!!

What I'm eating:
BIG salad with pan fried chicken thighs
Applewood chicken sausage with pesto mac and cheese and corn
Salmon, rice and asparagus
Spaghetti with beef and veggies and a salad with garlic bread

Beef pho with garlic bread
I picked up a number of beef bones from the farm I go to and made an amazing bone broth full of bone marrow.  I put rice noodles, sliced radishes, carrots, snap peas in a bowl and covered with some broth and it was amazing.
Wings and jacket potatoes cooked on the grill, deviled eggs and jalapeno popper egg rolls.
Tonight I am grilling a spatch cocked chicken, potatoes and we'll have asparagus with it.

What is making me smile:  Ann from Ann's Snap Edit Scrap always sends me the nicest cards and is the sweetest friend.  All of her cards are so creative. This is the card she sent for June and I just love it.  Thank you, Ann!!

All of the garden and flowers growing brings a smile too.  I've had this planter for right at a month now and I can't believe how much it has grown.  It is just gorgeous.

I just want to send a virtual hug to everyone that visits here.  Life is hard sometimes and we have to remind ourselves to find every little ounce of joy we can through the day.  All of my blog buddies are super special to me.  Have a great week and enjoy every moment!!

  1. Nothing like a new comfy chair to spruce things up. Love the name of that place you went to eat.
I would love to start walking again but unless they can take care of the hip pain I've got there's no way I can do it.
That hanging basket is so pretty. Glad you got my card.

    1. Twisted Twins was created by two actual twins that grew up here. They decided to take a few college classes on business instead of 'traditional' college and then open the restaurant. It has been a huge success, and it is right next to a park and ballpark which is a perfect location.
Sorry about your hip pain. That would make walking a challenge.

  2. A new chair is great, and comfortable is most important!
Good for you for walking. It can be hard to fit in when working. I find it much easier now that I'm retired.
    The card is so sweet!

    1. It is a really well built, pretty chair. It is from a company in Indiana that I hadn't heard of but I am impressed.
I get home from work by 2pm so I tell myself there is no excuse and just do it. lol

  4. I think I must have heard about The Boroughs from you and have started watching it, although I'm having a bit of a hard time with it. I love Alfred Molina and will stick with it but I'm also having a hard time with Geena Davis' veneers. I understand she's been ill but I'm having the same reaction to her teeth as I did to Martin Sheen's dentures in Grace and Frankie! Mind you, the guard she's currently bonking definitely makes it worth watching! He's gorgeous!

    1. We enjoyed it but I do know what you mean about Geena Davis. It was a little distracting to watch her talk but yes, she found the perfect one, didn't she?

  5. It's not peaceful now, Israel and Iran are going at it again and the Houthies are threatening to close the Bab-Al-Mandab strait...inflation in the US to skyrocket in 3, 2, 1...

  6. It's always a pleasure visiting your blog, Lori. I don't think I ever had a smash burger...different from the regular beef burger? We canceled Netflix a while ago...now I am thinking to resub it again..

    1. Thank you, Angie. I love visiting with you also and am always amazed at your talent. A smash burger is a beef patty cooked on a very hot pan/griddle that you literally smash to thin it out. It gets crispy almost lace like edges. They are very tasty. We had a local place where I grew up that made them, so I've been eating them since I was a kid.

  7. It's always fun to get a new piece of furniture, esp. a comfy chair. My husband has a lazy-boy style chair that he chose about 5 years ago and it has not worn well. I can't wait to replace it. Your menu always sounds good. You put a lot of thought into the variety for the week. Have a great summer and I'll check in when I can.

    1. TBG's recliner did not age well either, so it had to go. This chair was made by a company in Indiana, and it seems really solid so hopefully it will last a long time. I do try to make sure we eat a lot of variety. Enjoy your summer!! Can't wait to hear how it went.

Yay on the new chair - inspiring me to go and furniture shop. I really need new.
We love you too - and you are so right - the smallest joys can make life wonderful. We need to rejoice and not let life get us down. No need to always be negative - life can be full of joy.

    1. Thank you, Cheryl. I'll have to look at home to see what the name of the company is that built the chair, but it is in Indiana. It is a really nice, solid built chair like things used to be. Yes, even when things are happening around you, I think we need to look for the small joys.

    1. Thank you. We actually don't use our living room that much, but it is nice to be comfortable when we do.

  10. The flower basket is gorgeous! You've had some good food and you reminded me that the next time I make a chicken I will spatchcock it. I haven't often done this with chicken but with game hens. A new chair, good reading material and shows on Netflix. Life sounds good.

    1. I bought it from one of the farmers at the market. I had one last year and it lasted from May until late September, so I hope this one does as well. It's really growing.

  16. That planter is stunning! That color is so beautiful. I planted two large hanging baskets that I have hanging from the pergola over the deck. I looked for that color, but couldn’t find it, so had to go with fuchsia. Mine are growing well, but they don’t look anything like yours.

    1. Thank you Pattie, I love the color too. I got this from one of the farmers at the market. His family always has such gorgeous plants. I hope it lasts until the end of September like last years did.
