My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  The changing of the seasons.  In September our high humidity went away but it was still pretty warm.  Mornings were in the 50's and highs were in the 80's. I'm happy to say October has brought Fall weather in and I'm loving it.  This weekend brought us mornings in the 30's and highs in the 60's which to me is perfection.  The leaves are changing a bit, but it will still be another week or two before our area is at its peak color.  I hope the lack of rain doesn't affect the beautiful leaves.  To celebrate the season I made this cake which never disappoints.

Where I've been:  No where out of the ordinary.  Farmers market, library, work and home.  No complaints here.  I like a simple, uncomplicated day.

What I'm watching:  Binx and I snuggled up this week and watched Hocus Pocus. While he tended to nap through the movie he did pop his head up everytime someone in the movie said his name.  He kept looking at me like "was that you"?

What I'm reading:  I finished Starlight on Willow Lake and The Book Charmer.  I can highly recommend both books.

What I'm eating:

Cod, baked potato and salad
Sloppy Joes and zucchini chips
Lamb chops and salad
BIG salad
Chili loaded with cheese, green onions and sour cream.  I used one of poblanos that I grilled and put up a few weeks ago and it was delicious.
Chicken fajita, rice and pinto bean bowl

Who needs a good slap:  The payroll "specialist" at work.   The doctors and NP's are all salaried so that is just automatic.  If they work any extra shifts or have reimbursements, I put in a payroll packet and download it to the finance partner to approve.  For over a month the specialist and finance partner are arguing over who should approve the extra expense packets for NP's.  Both say it should be the other.  Meanwhile I'm sitting here in limbo being told a new way to submit almost weekly. Friday I had to send a mass email to all involved telling them they needed to fix this prior to Mondays close at 10am.  All I received back was an email from the specialist saying I agree.  4 slaps, no 5 slaps.

What's making me smile:  This time of year we do not have to use the heat or the air and I just love it.  I opened all of the windows yesterday and gave the house a good sage.  It feels so fresh inside now and it just makes me smile.

I hope everyone is doing well and has a wonderful week.

  4. I love how Binx knows his name, and I'm sorry to hear about the payroll situation. That has to be distressful, especially for the people who are waiting for their funds.

FYI, I decided to shutter my blog last night. Don't worry. I'll still be around.

    1. Binx does know his name very well. The payroll situation is SO frustrating. Please email me so we can stay in touch. I will miss your blog and need to keep up with you.

  5. I also read The Book Charmer and enjoyed it. But I’m sitting here freezing without the heat on. We try to hold out as long as possible to turn on the furnace. Your cake looks yummy. I’m going to make an apple cake today, as we went apple picking last weekend.

    1. It was a good book. It only got down to 67 in our house Sunday morning so it wasn't bad. I want to go to the apple orchard this coming weekend. I love a good apple pie or cake.

  6. The cook is just so pretty and I bet it tasted good too!
I have never seen Hocus Pocus - I know that may amaze people. Just never seemed like my cup of tea. May have to give it a try sometime.
Hope the P/R situation gets all worked out - sooner than later.
    Have a good week.

    1. Thanks Cheryl. This cake is always a winner. Hocus Pocus is a cute movie. You should watch it, I think you would enjoy it. They have until 10am this morning to get it figured out but I'm not going to hold my breath.

  7. The cake looks so good. Wish I were close enough to have a small slice.
OH the horrors of payroll specialists.Especially when you have different pay rates, and pay schedules. There is no envy here!

    1. I would love to share a slice with you. It is a good cake. It is beyond frustrating watching these two battle it out with each other while I'm stuck in the middle.

  9. Your cake looks beautiful but your payroll guys need many, many more slaps (says me, having worked in HR and trying to get people paid on time)!

    1. Thank you. Yes, they actually deserve a throat punch. There have been so many battles with them it's crazy.

  10. Our weather turned cold Saturday. I was thinking how cold it felt in the house but would not turn the furnace on yet. Next thing I knew I heard the furnace kick on. Seems I never turned it all the way down in the spring.
    That cake looks really good.

    1. We resisted turning ours on. The lowest it got was 67 and that's about what we have it set on in the winter anyway so we were fine. Wish you were closer, I'd happily share a piece with you.

  13. Highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s is my idea of perfection too but alas, we are still about ten degrees warmer than that. But it's all good! That cake looks heavenly. Love to you, the big guy, and Binx xoxo

  16. I think it's understandable why fall is most people's favorite season. We too have had a little too much warm weather reaching up into the 80's during the day, but I think it finally will be cooling off starting tomorrow. I love watching Hocus Pocus- just such a light fun movie. Enjoy your cake. Looks delicious.

    1. It was a beautiful week here again and another cool front coming in tonight. I do love this time of year but it's been pretty dry and I'm worried we won't have much true fall color. Yes, Hocus Pocus is just a fun movie. The cake was spectacular.

    1. It's a really good cake. Not too sweet, and the coffee in it takes down the richness to perfection. Binx slept most of the movie but did wake up a few times when they said 'Binx'. It was funny. Wishing you a wonderful weekend as well. Big hugs.

  18. Fall colors are creeping in everywhere, I think. Just a few red leaves one day, and soon it’s entire trees in red, and then the whole forest.
