What's top of my mind: I can't help but have all of the conflict that is going on all around the world on my mind. The inhumane, barbaric treatment of civilians is unimaginable to me. We have a whole new generation of children and young adults that are witnessing things no one ever should. Their pain, lossand fear will cause a lot of anger. Now Iran has stated that Americans will suffer if this continues. There are no winners in situations like this. And unfortunately, there are so many other conflicts all around the globe as well. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around all of this.
Where I've been: I ran a number of errands on Friday so I could spend the weekend at home. Other than that, I haven't been anywhere but work and home. I'm oddly ok with that.
What I'm watching: I've noticed the squirrels burying everything they can in our backyard. The hummingbirds seem to be gone and the leaves are starting to turn a bit.
What I'm reading: I finished Savannah Breeze. It was a good book, the story line kept me wondering what would happen next but it honestly wasn't one of the best books I've read. Savannah is one of my favorite cities in the US so it was nice to think back on my visits there. I also bought The World Central Cookbook this week and I'm looking forward to going through it. I'm trying not to buy anymore cookbooks but I justified this by it being a donation to a wonderful organization.
What I'm listening to: As much peace and quiet as possible.
What I'm eating:
LO sloppy joes and zucchini chips
Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob
BIG salad x2
Lamb burgers and zucchini fries. This was the last zucchini, and I am going to miss them so much. I love zucchini fries/chips more than potatoes.
Spaghetti, meatballs and salad.
What I'm planning: I just picked the last of the basil, so I'll be making pesto and basil cubes this morning for the freezer. I planted two rounds of basil this year so I'm lucky to have it this late in the year.
Who needs a good slap: I don't even know how I could narrow this down with all that is going on all over. I will tell you I had a phone call with payroll and they were all paid but it is still a huge mess.
What's making me smile: Binx as always. Here's a picture of him on his window seat. He spends hours here every day looking out into the yard. This cat is so awesome.
I'm wishing everyone a safe, happy week ahead. Remember to look for the small joys and the little things that make you smile.
Yes - it doesn't have anything to do with politics or religion - there is just no excuse for the atrocities taking place - there is no excuse for any of it - BUT EVIL!
ReplyDeleteYour meals sound yummy.
Have you read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - it is about Savannah - I really enjoyed it. Much better than the movie of the same name.
Love your baby!!!!!
I agree with you 100%. It's just all so inhumane. I don't have the answers but no one should have to go through things like this. No one.
ReplyDeleteI have read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and it was better than the movie. I actually visited the estate and the cemetery that the book was based on. It was fascinating. Savannah is a wonderfully beautiful place. Have a wonderful Sunday!!
What's happening is so barbaric. Between the murdered children and the phosphorus weapons used in retaliation, there are no good guys in this war as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteI miss hamburgers and air fried zucchini. Maybe someday...
Binx is as cute as ever. I caught myself looking online at black cats at the animal shelter. There's a 3 month old with long fur that I'm debating whether or not to bring home. He's like a mix between Ricky and Terri.
It's just hard for me to wrap my head around everything that is going on. Barbaric is right. It sounds like you're doing well on your health journey. I hope it gets easier for you. Binx is something else. After Jet died I thought we needed to wait longer before getting another cat. But then we met Binx (Cole at the time) and I can't imagine life without him. Have a wonderful Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteThe world is turning into a crazy place and it just seems to get worse every day. It makes me glad that I grew up when I did.
ReplyDeleteSome people wonder how I can do it but I also am ok with going nowhere but work and home most of the time.
I'm glad I grew up when I did as well. We were able to have relatively easy going childhoods compared to the things kids are exposed to today. It's sad. I love being home and could spend days if not weeks on end here.
DeleteI don't even know what to say about what's going on in the middle east right now. It's mind boggling how cruel humans can be. I fear for my grandchildren. I haven't been to Savannah but it's on my bucket list so one day... Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI love sloppy Joe’s and zucchini fries. I’m trying a new recipe tomorrow called Teriyaki Turkey Rice Bowls. I’m also making a meal this week for a nice couple from my church who just had their third child. I’m making a chicken and stuffing bake, roasted veggies, and an apple cake.
ReplyDeleteI've cried all week long, reading about all the atrocities. I just can't believe there's so much evil in this world. That photo of Binx made me smile. I always enjoy his pics & tales. No need to justify that cookbook purchase...lol. Jose Andres is awesome! I absolutely love the work he does. I might have to add that cookbook to my wish list :) I haven't made sloppy Joes in years. I'll have to add that to our menu soon. Wishing you all a wonderful week. Big Hugs to everyone!
ReplyDeleteI just can't imagine how much suffering so many are dealing with right now all over the globe. It's heart breaking. Binx does bring a smile doesn't he? I love Jose Andres and all that he does. Wishing you a wonderful week as well. Hugs to you!!
DeleteI miss squirrels. I know many dislike them for stealing food from the feeders but I never begrudged them the cut.
ReplyDeleteYou remind me it's a good time to make sloppy Joes - next weekend or sooner I reckon.
I'm not a fan of the squirrels as they've eaten up my garden too many times. The recipe for sloppy joes that I use is awesome if you'd like to try it.
DeleteAs usual with these conflicts it's always the innocent that suffer isn't it. It breaks my heart when so much of this "conflict" isn't in fact about things like religion, but about oil, power grabs and making money for the war mongers!
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. It is the innocent people that suffer.
DeleteThanks for your words of sanity in the beginning. There are too many people not seeing the bigger picture and just focused on just punishing one side. We just heard about the man who stabbed a six year old in Illinois because he was Muslim and.. well I don't know. He was six. And I had to have a talk with my own kids about the dangers that lurk out there.. and I hope they never have to experience any of it but they still have to be prepared. But how do I prepare them for such a thing? (Sorry for the long rant)
ReplyDeleteI am just at a loss of words. I heard about the man stabbing the six year old. My mind just can't comprehend this. I couldn't treat an animal like that let alone a human, a child. I have a lot of friends from all over the world, various cultures, various religions and I worry about them all the time. I actually worry for all of us. Children, actually no one, shouldn't have to deal with this but I agree they have to be prepared. Big hugs to you!!
DeleteAwwwww Binx. I love Binx too. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHe is a loveable little guy.
DeleteIt is so nice that Binx brings you so much joy. Love the photo!!! It is a frightening time, and I fear things may continue. We usually stop in Savannah on our way driving to Florida. We go out for dinner in the historic area and then spend the night. Your basil looks nice and healthy- my herbs are done for the season.
ReplyDeleteIt's heartbreaking to see what is going on. I made trips to Savannah a few times a year when we lived in Florida. It's a magical city. I love the historic district. It was a really good year for herbs. This is the first time that I did two plantings of basil and it worked out well.
DeleteHello, my friend. Binx looks perfect in that photo! I am struggling with all thos evil happening. And I am explaining it to my kids because honestly, most young people have no idea what is even happening. Basil is a favorite here!
ReplyDeleteIt has to be very difficult to explain to kids what is going on and what it all means. It's all just so sad and disturbing. Yes, basil is a favorite of mine too.
DeleteBinx is so cute. And I love zucchini chips! There is a restaurant near us that makes the best version, and i just can't stop eating them. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry. Binx is a cutie. I love zucchini chips and will eat them over potatoes any time. I will miss them this winter. Enjoy your week as well!
DeleteHi Lori~ I agree, the world is in such turmoil... it makes me sad and mad. Binx is adorable! Cats have such amazing personalities, I just love everything about them. Your meals always make me hungry... I'm now changing tomorrows dinner to sloppy joe's! Have a good week! Barb
ReplyDeleteWe've had a number of cats over the years and they each had their own ways, but Binx is definitely one of a kind. He has SO much personality. I don't know why we don't have sloppy joe's more often, I do enjoy it. Have a great week also!!
DeleteCute kitty! It has been so long since I have made (or had) sloppy joes. That sounds super tasty right about now! Hope you are having a good week -
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by. We don't eat sloppy joes often and I don't know why because it sure hits the spot, especially this time of year. Wishing you a great week as well.
DeleteRather than looking at the bigger picture, too many people are only concerned with hurting one side. It seems like you're making good progress on your road to better health. I really hope things start to become easier for you.
