The last day of August 2025

I think most people are feeling this today.  I know I am.  How is tomorrow September 1st?

This was a pretty good week. The weather has been great, but I do wish we'd get a good rain or two.  It's so dry.  We haven't had much rain at all in a couple of months.  We are supposed to have another cool down Wednesday, and I see more morning lows in the 40's which I love.  I'm getting ready to plant a few lettuce varieties and arugula in the next week or two, then at the end of September, I'll plant the garlic for next year.

Our seafood order and our local beef bundle arrived so the freezer is FULL for quite a while. TBG and I went and did a big stock up on household and bath and beauty products.  So, now other than produce and dairy, we shouldn't have to shop for much for a few months at least and then in November, we'll do a top off to get us through the rest of the winter.  I don't enjoy shopping, and in the winter, I absolutely despise it, so this has been my strategy for years and it works for us.

We have a friend that supplies us with eggs all year, but her hens haven't been laying as much as normal, so we went to a new to us farm for eggs this week.  Not only did we get 3 dozen for the same price, but we got a tour of the farm and had a wonderful talk with her about our area, FFA, food and more.  I also got to love on a lamb that wasn't even 12 hours old yet, played with and fed her goats and TBG had fun feeding the turkeys that were walking around.  I love meeting new people this way.

Tomorrow we'll celebrate Labor Day and the end of another good summer with a BBQ on the patio since no rain is predicted.  While I love Fall and Winter, I will miss all of the fresh herbs and produce. I will miss my pool days too because tomorrow is the last day my happy place will be open.

Dinners this week were pretty simple.
Chicken fajita, basmati rice bowls with cheese and cilantro roll ups
Spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic cheese biscuits
BIG salad
Cajun spiced chicken with mac and cheese, summer salad.  Summer salad is tomatoes, cucumbers and red onions in this area.
Beef cheeseburgers, with zucchini fries.
BLT and salad
Tonight, we're having Northwest Petrale Sole with sides tbd.

A couple of shows that we watch have new episodes starting this coming week. Tuesday Bobby Flay's Triple Threat starts and The Great British Bake off starts Friday.  I also noticed a lot of good shows coming on Netflix and Prime this month.

Next weekend we're going to Cedarhurst craft fair. Art & Craft Fair - Cedarhurst Center for the Arts
This is their 49th year and we've gone every year since we moved here but one when I had a broken toe. 😀 Unfortunately, Cedarhurst has announced this year will be the last one.  I do not understand that decision at all.  It's a huge event that brings many people to our area.  I love and support Cedarhurst, but I do not like this decision, so I give two slaps.

Wishing you all a fabulous week!

  1. Your farm visit reminded me of my old 4H days and many were also FFA members too. We never had sheep or cows so seeing the littles was always a treat.

    1. My grandparents had a farm with cows, goats, chickens and sheep and the sheep/lambs are the best memories. I remember being there a number of times that lambs were born in the middle of the night, and it was always so exciting, especially when there were twins. They are just so cute.

  2. Good to have the freezer full and a great strategy of sticking up. The pools here close tomorrow as well. Except the Y - that is inside.
    Your meals sound wonderful.
I hope you get to enjoy the craft fair. Shame it will be ending.
    Have a good week.

    1. It is good to be stocked up. I didn't go to the pool this weekend, so I'll have to wait until next summer. We have a Y too, but I prefer an outside pool and some sun. Thank you, enjoy your week also.

  3. How sad. Did they give any reason for the decision? It seems crazy to not have the 50th! We have had plenty of rain. It’s been rather chilly here. I’m hoping for an Indian Summer.

    1. It is sad. They said they were going in a different direction, but I don't know what was meant by that. I wish you could send some of your rain to us, it's really dry.

  4. I would kill for overnight temps in the 40s. Inside my home it's still hot and humid to the point I'll take Miku out for a long drive with the top down at sunset to cool off.

    1. Sorry to hear you're still dealing with the high temperatures. I don't know how you do it without AC. A long drive with the top down at night sounds like a perfect way to cool off a bit.

  5. Temperatures have really cooled down here too, which is a blessing as far as I'm concerned. Now I just need to give myself a stiff talking to and get out walking, since the heat is no longer an excuse!

    1. Isn't it nice? The humidity was really killing me this year. I just read we officially had the most humid summer in history so now I know why.

  6. That sounds like a great way to shop. I don't particularly care for grocery shopping either. That's sad about the even being the last year. My guess would be that they can't find people to run it. That's been the problem with things around here. People want to go but they don't want to help keep things running.

    1. I really don't like grocery shopping, and this seems to work for us. I think we also spend less in the long run which is nice. Cedarhurst has a lot of volunteers and does many things centered around the arts. It is also where we go to the Christmas lights each year so I don't think that is it.

  7. The new farm sounds fun to visit. I hate grocery shopping as well, and especially during winter months. It sounds like you do a great job getting stocked up.

    1. It's only new to us but it was fun and I got to actually meet a couple that found each other 30 years ago on farmers.com. I used to laugh at those commercials when they were on. But it worked well for them.

  8. I go grocery often.. we are a family of six and while I do stock up on certain items many need to be bought regularly. I break up my trips with a Wegmans trip on Monday and a Costco trip every two weeks and a swing by Trader Joes once a month.. but it still is more trips them I care for. Enjoy your labor day as well as the fair next week. Sad that they are ending it.

    1. One of us will have to run in and pick up fresh produce and dairy, usually once a week but that is it. There are only two of us, so it's a lot easier. It sounds like you have a good system though, at least you aren't going to multiple stores every week. That is draining.

  9. You have a fabulous week too. My tarot cards say mine will not be so.

  10. If you lived by me I would be forcing eggs on you!

  11. Hi Lori, thanks for stopping at my blog. I like your shopping plan. I hate getting out for groceries in the winter. I have beef in the freezer and have been doing some canning, I also stock up on paper products and toiletries but I don't think I'm as well stocked as you are. Something to work towards!

    1. Hi Mari. I do like to keep things that we use regularly stocked up well. I just don't care for shopping much and I think it helps the budget in the long run. Fewer shops equal fewer impulse buys. I like to hibernate in the winter as much as possible.
