Does anyone else love the sound of rustling leaves and wind in the trees? I know I do. We have some leaves now, but the great fall (pun intended) will be closer to the end of the month, the beginning of November here.
The two mums that TBG brought home are gorgeous. This photo was from a week ago, so they have even more blooms now. I've decorated the front porch with some fall and Halloween items, and it looks nice, but I really wish I could fit in a couple of mums out there, but I've learned my lesson with the deer. (I will try to remember to get a picture this week)
Our local fall festival last weekend was fun. It was a gorgeous sunny day, a bit warm, but still nice. 12 of TBG's Tae kwon do students held a demonstration that had a really good crowd. It's always so nice to see them learning and improving and enjoying it. We walked around for a while then decided to skip the LONG parade and go have lunch at Yellin Helen's. Sitting at a picnic table under the shade trees was really nice after a long walk.
Yesterday we decided to go about an hour north of us to the fall festival they were having. There were so many different vendors to check out it was a nice late morning walking around. We passed on all of the food truck options and went to a BBQ place to sit and relax instead. It really is a fun atmosphere, and the food was really good too. I really enjoyed my beef brisket sandwich.
TBG had one of his military veteran hats on so the owner came and asked him if he would sign the Wall of Heroes which he was happy to do. We all talked a bit and found out he had a food truck for 7 years and also did catering and just opened the brick and mortar 3 months ago. You can tell they put a lot of thought and time into it. It all looks really good. The poxy floor is gorgeous; a local artist did all of the murals and they have great details even in the bathroom.
Other meals this week...
I'm in your leave crunching mode! Love the sound. We've still got a lot of green here, more than usual. I'm debating the non coloring. I hated the time from a picture where it just looked streaky but I've let my hair grow too long so that might be it in part. I'll decide this month on that. Good luck to the restaurant owner and it's successful in a regular space.
ReplyDeleteWe still have a lot of green here too with this crazy hot weather. My tulip tree even has two buds opening. I'm sure the restaurant will do well. Having many catering and food truck customers for years will help a lot.
DeleteI love the little heart in your bread! I made a loaf the other day and as I type, new dough is fermenting for today's loaf. This past week I went back to fully cooking, creating veggie dishes and bread making (oven working again), and it's been wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes on the leaves. I'm outside now and it's raining leaves and this is THE BEST TIME OF YEAR EVERRRRRR. Had a few macro walks, enjoying the back deck, soon to get another cuppa. Sounds like I need to make that into a cartoon!
Wishing you a wonderful week of fall ahead with a great big side of boogie boogie 👻
It was so cute when I cut into it and saw the heart.
DeleteIt is the best time of the year ever in my opinion too. Macro walks and enjoying a cuppa on the back deck would make a good cartoon. Wishing you a great week also.
I have another fall camera cartoon coming up. Did one the other day too. Really fun. LOVE that little heart. Happy Weekend!
DeleteI have never been impressed with food truck food, even though that's all the rage. I'm glad you found that BBQ place and that TBG got to sign the wall. That's so nice that they honor veterans. Your hair is long! And I've always admired it in your profile picture. It looks very pretty! My natural hair looks exactly like a witch's wig, so I will continue to color! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had much luck over the years with food truck food either, so I thought it was funny that we ended up at a new restaurant that started out as a food truck. Straightening my hair shows how long it is, when it is curly it looks 2-3 inches shorter. I get the witch's wig look all too well. That's how I feel some days.
DeleteWhat nice visits you had over the last week. Fall festivals are always neat. Most of the ones around here, are pretty far away.
ReplyDeleteYour meals all sound delish.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
I do love Fall festivals. That is too bad you don't have any locally. Wishing you a wonderful week also!!
DeleteFood truck food can be quite outstanding. I have fond memories of that lobster mac I enjoyed with a Sauvignon Blanc nearly a month ago. Sadly they won't be back at the winery in October. I also paired Duck Pad See Ewe with a 2017 Wild Yeast Syrah this weekend. The wine also goes well with chocolate truffle cheesecake.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had great success with food truck food, but I know there are a lot that are awesome, just not here. You've been eating a lot of really great sounding food.
DeleteI love the sound of rustling leaves too. It always takes me back to walking my kids around on Halloween and the rustling leaves on the sidewalk! Your hair is very pretty. I'm not sure mine would look so good if I let it go. I think there is still too much brown in it!
ReplyDeleteIt brings so many memories back for me also. My hair was growing in 90 percent grey and 10 percent brown so there was no reason to continue the fight.
DeleteI had a friend that I grew up with who would get her hair cut and straightened. It never lasted past that day.
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't either. When I woke up Saturday morning it was a mix of curls and straight which was not cute at all. lol
DeleteWe have a BBQ place near us that is military run and also has a wall of heroes. Every day at noon they play the national anthem and everyone stands for it. Very touching.
ReplyDeleteI love the sound of rustling leaves too - never knew it had a name!
I'm jealous of your curls - my hair is fine and straight. Your hair is beautiful!
The bread looks good!
That is really cool about your BBQ place. I love to see our veterans honored. I didn't know it had a name either but I'm glad I know now. My mom's hair was fine and straight and that is what I always wanted. Mine is uncontrollable some days.
DeleteOh yes. The sound of rustling leaves! Add the scent of them lying on the ground on Halloween night as my sisters and I went house to house with our plastic pumpkins. You know what I mean, don't you?!?! Love your hair, straight or curly! Always enjoy my visits, here, my friend. Have a cozy week.
ReplyDeleteThere really is no other sound quite like rustling leaves and it always brings back so many memories of Fall and Halloween for me too. Wishing you a cozy week as well my friend!!
DeleteI miss the trees turning color and the leaves falling off the trees in the fall!
ReplyDeleteI really missed them when we lived in Florida. I'm glad to be back.
DeleteYour hair is lovely, some people suit grey so well! I actually don't have any grey, which is weird at 67 but then my dad never went grey either! Like you I have a curl/wave in my hair and it drives me nuts. I try to straighten it but within about 10 minutes it's all over the place again. I guess we always want what we don't have, right?
ReplyDeleteThank you. I started going grey very early and my hair grows so quickly I had roots showing in a week or two when I had it colored, so I decided enough is enough. I feel for you on the curl/wave because I know how out of control it can get.
Deletethe little heart in the bread is cute. Sounds like you have been having fun with autumn festivals. We are into a hot spring here, and the jacarandas are blooming beautifully. Have a fun month.
ReplyDeletesherry
I thought it was so cute when I cut into the bread and saw it. I do love to walk around fall festivals. I just wish it was a bit cooler here. Wishing you a wonderful Spring month.
DeleteOoh the bread look so good. I don't blow dry my hair either.. I just embrace the wavy mess.
ReplyDeleteThe bread was good. I embrace the curly mess. It took him probably 30 minutes to dry and straighten and it didn't even last a full day. I don't have time for that.
DeleteYour hair and mine is so much alike. They blow it straight and it lasts a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteIt's still pretty warm here so mine lasted one day then started doing its own thing.
DeleteLori your hair is so beautiful! I love the color. Wish I could do that but I don't have the courage. Your bread loaf is gorgeous too and the heart is darling. I love finding hearts in things. I wish you'd given the name of the BBQ place because that looks like someplace we would love to go if we were ever in that neck of the woods. And YES I love the sound of wind in the trees! And what a fantastic word! I don't have much luck with mums getting lusher on my watch; not sure about deer but your mums are so pretty. Happy October! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenny. I also love finding hearts in things. It always makes me smile. The BBQ place is in Effingham (right down the road from Firefly Grill) and it is called Truckers Pub. The deer ate every flower off of my mums last year on the front porch, so these have to stay in the fenced in back yard. Enjoy October my friend!!
DeleteThose mums are gorgwous - love the color. We enjoy going to fall community festivals- so nice to be outdoors, see neighbors, and enjoy looking at all the vendors goods. Your hair is so long and beautiful. I have not colored my hair ever, but luckily it's more dark than gray. It sort of looks like I have highlights. I do enjoy the sound of the leaves in the wind. It's sort of a cozy feeling.
ReplyDeleteWhen my hair isn't straightened, it shrinks up at least another inch or two. That is awesome that you've never colored your hair. I've seen some of your pictures and yours is a great color. Fall festivals are so fun for all the reasons you mentioned. Most of our leaves haven't even begun to change color yet, but I know it will happen soon.
Deleteyes yes yes to the sounds of autumn.
ReplyDeleteWould you please send me the bread recipe? I suppose you have already, but I would like it again especially if I wrote it down wrong.
It is a wonderful sound. Yes, I'll send you the recipe.
