Happy May! April was a pretty full month for us, and I didn't do much new in my kitchen so this post will be a bit sparse, but I still wanted to join along with sherrys pickings for her monthly In My Kitchen. It is always fun to see what others from all over the world are doing in their kitchens plus I didn't want to break my record of doing four months in a row. 😉
We had a lovely Easter dinner at our house with lamb T bones, garlic and rosemary potatoes, deviled eggs and asparagus. It was delicious. I used this recipe for the lamb, because it always comes out so well. Culinary Adventures with Lori: 52 Recipes in 52 Weeks #4 Lamb T-bones with Rosemary-Balsamic Butter Sauce For dessert, we enjoyed banana pudding that I made with Lorna Doone cookies for something a bit different than a crust or vanilla wafers. It turned out really well.
The next day we celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary by taking a day trip and having a wonderful lunch together at our favorite place Firefly Grill - Farm & Table in Effingham, Illinois The weather turned out to be perfect, so the drive was gorgeous. It was a great day with my favorite person in the world.
New items I picked up this month.
TBG loves hot tea every day, so I picked up another bag of the Berry Berry that he really enjoys, making sure he has a good variety in the cabinet to choose from.I like to keep beef tallow on hand to occasionally cook with and also to make lotion. This winter I made it through the cold harsh winter that we had with soft skin instead of dry and scaly. It has to be the tallow lotion that I made in the fall. I love this stuff.
I love Lindt chocolate and TBG picked up this bag for me which was appreciated. This bag contained a new to me flavor of Neapolitan. The filling was a mixture of strawberry and milk chocolate with the outer shell being white chocolate. I'm not a big fan of white chocolate but this combination was really very good.
Sherry, thank you for hosting because I know you have been so busy as well. I hope everyone has a wonderful May!!
Happy Anniversary. I'm not crazy about white chocolate either but those Lindor chocolates sure sound good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann. I was surprised at how delicious they were since I'm not a white chocolate fan.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! Glad you had such a nice day out to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteYour banana pudding sounds yummy.
I agree on the beef tallow. I find it works really well too.
Hi to Binx!
Thank you Mari. We did have a really nice day.
DeleteThe beef tallow definitely worked for me this winter, it's nice to hear of someone else that uses it.
I'll give Binx a hello from you.
Awwww Happy Anniversary to you and TBG! How special. I'm glad you got to go to The Firefly Grill because I know how much you love that. The banana pudding looks too good to be true! I cannot resist banana pudding so it's a good thing I don't make it very often, hahaha! I do not believe I have ever eaten lamb but your recipe sounds wonderful. And Binx is so glossy and black and precious! xoxo 🏴☠️
ReplyDeleteThank you my sweet friend. Yes, you know we do love Firefly. I am a banana pudding lover myself so I only make it when we have others over or else I will eat way more than I should.
DeleteCan you believe Binx is almost 4? Where does the time go?
Big hugs!!!
36 years!! That's amazing! Congratulations :-)) My husband loves Lindt too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie!! Lindt is a great treat.
DeleteCongrats on the anniversary. I love those chocolates - all flavors are lovely.
ReplyDeleteMy Bitsy 'makes bed' quite an ordeal!! It is so funny to watch and then they get all comfy and cozy!
Thank you Cheryl. The chocolates are very tasty, aren't they? Getting a blanket just right is a very big deal to cats. It must have taken Binx 20 minutes to get it how he wanted it.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! The banana pudding sounds yummy. I really love hot tea as well and it's nice that so many places are now offering it in a wide variety of flavors in leaves. But why does it say to use distilled water??
ReplyDeleteThank you!! He has quite a tea collection. Honestly, we have never used distilled water to make it. I did google that years ago and a lot of internet sources say to not drink distilled water, so I don't know. The next time I go there I need to ask the son why it recommends distilled.
Deletewow.. I totally forgot about In Your Kitchen this month until I just saw your post. I'm glad you enjoyed a nice anniversary dinner out and the weather cooperated. Binx is too cute. Love how he is curled up and took a long nap. Enjoy your chocolates
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised you forgot, it looks like you have been having too much fun in South Florida! You still have time though.
DeleteThank you, we did enjoy our anniversary.
I hope May is a wonderful month for you!!
Lindt chocolate is so rich, I save one for a treat on occasion with a good cup of coffee. I think I'd enjoy that flavor. I need to find a good lotion that isn't greasy but keeps the dryness away. I had so.e painful cracking on the worst cold days.
ReplyDeleteThe Neapolitan was very good. One of my favorites actually and I wasn't expecting that. I used to always get cracks around my fingers around the nails and my elbows were horrible. The beef tallow really works well and is not greasy at all. Your skin just soaks it all up.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! The chocolate sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The chocolate was heavenly.
DeleteHappy Anniversary to you and TBG! Making a banana pudding with Lorna Doone cookies sounds really good! Lorna Doone cookies remind me of my grandma who used to always have then in the breadbox on her counter! We would head straight to it whenever we went over there!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I wanted something different, so I picked up the Lorna Doone's, and it really did work out well. That is a sweet memory of your grandma.
DeleteEverything sounds delicious, even though I do not thing I have ever eaten lamb. My Dad did not like it, so my mom did not cook it, and so far neither have I....visiting from IMK
ReplyDeleteWe really enjoy lamb and it is very easy to find in our area. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteHappy belated anniversary! Your lamb meal sounds divine :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tandy.
DeleteYour food always looks so wonderful!!!! And also - another belated happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteHappy Anniversary! So much yummy food.
ReplyDeleteThank you Hena!
Deletethanks so much for joining in Lori. and happy anniversary to you and your hubby. We had our 40th this year! Time flies. Binx looks very happy there. Happy May to you.
ReplyDeletesherry
Thank you for hosting Sherry. Binx made himself quite comfortable on a chilly morning. Happy May to you as well.
DeleteI'm sorry I missed this post. Happy belated anniversary! I also how Binx is making himself at home in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThank you my friend! Binx is a bit too comfortable. He has basically claimed our house as his own and taken over. It's like he allows us to live there.
DeleteBelated Happy Anniversary! Those Lindt balls sound so good, I'm going to have to hunt some down. I never knew beef tallow was so versatile. Binks looks so cosy!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! The Neapolitan is now one of my favorites and I'm not usually a fan of white chocolate. Yes, beef tallow makes wonderful lotion that has really worked well for my skin. It makes the best French fries among other things too.
DeleteHappy belated Annniversary! I adore homemade banana pudding. I love your goodies in particular Lindt new taste caught my eye. I have not tried it even if I noticed it in the store. I am a huge lover of white chocolate
ReplyDeleteThank you. We love homemade banana pudding also. If you already love white chocolate, then I am sure you will love the Neapolitan. The center flavors combined with the white chocolate are wonderful.
DeleteYou had a lot going on in the month of April! Happy anniversary! I love that you went to a place to eat in Effingham Illinois. I miss the days when my husband and I used to go on day trips, try new restaurants, shops, you name it. Next month he will be gone 10 years. Life has certainly changed. I’m going to look into your popcorn. I am a big fan of popcorn and make it a couple of times a week, so I’m always interested in trying something new.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pattie. We love Firefly grill and day trips are high on our list. I can't begin to imagine how much your life has changed since your husband has been gone. My heart goes out to everyone that loses a spouse. We love popcorn too and this one is really one of the best we've tried. I hope you have a lovely May!!
DeleteI too wish you two a happy anniversary and many more to follow.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I need cheering up I stop by to see Binx.
Thank you.
