My Week

The Big Guy enjoyed his birthday Friday.  He requested chicken tikka masala with rice and naan and a pineapple walnut cake with cream cheese frosting.

Because of Covid, we lit the candles but he did not blow them out on the cake.  That is a tradition I miss but I guess it is a little gross when you think about it.

We had a lot of rain this week.  Friday alone dropped about 7 inches.  That is way too much rain for our garden, pots and flower beds.  I have to pick all of the basil today and make pesto.  I noticed the bottom leaves have turned black  which means too much water.  At one point Friday evening our yard was more flooded than I've ever seen.  This picture is the right side of our yard.  The left side is where our garden and flower beds are.  It did all soak in or drain off relatively quickly.

A number of small towns in our county were not so fortunate.  One town completely flooded and they are still flooded today.  A 25 year old young woman has been missing since 3:30 am Saturday.  They believe her car was swept off the road. Apparently they can tell where her cell phone is but the water hasn't receded enough for them to find her.  It doesn't sound good and I've been praying for her and her family.

The sun did come out yesterday and I was able to sit outside for awhile and read Blue Plate Special by Kate Christensen. Last week I finished I Loved, I Lost, I made Spaghetti.  It was a good read.  I've been averaging one or two books a week which is above average from last year.

I know so many need rain right now and I wish I could send it your way.  How is the weather in your area?

I'm off to get my day started.  I have a few things to do to get ready for the work week.

Stay safe and have a great Sunday!

  1. The big guys birthday dinner looks delicious! Blowing out candles on a cake really is kind of gross lol. That's horrible about the young woman who is missing, I sure hope somehow she is ok. I hope the rains slow down there soon too. Have a Nice Sunday and a great week Lori. :)

    1. You can't go wrong with chicken tikka masala. We both enjoy it. Today was a bright sunshiny day. Unfortunately late this morning the young woman was found and did not survive. It is so sad. Wishing you a good week as well Martha.

  2. I'm glad the birthday meal turned out so well. I'm also sorry to hear about the weather where you're at, especially what happened to that woman. It makes me wonder if she drove into water? That's a huge no-no since at minimum it will stall your car.

The weather is humid thanks to monsoonal weather we're getting from Mexico and Arizona. The rain is missing me, but worse yet it's missing the rest of the state which is suffering from extreme drought.

  3. Happy birthday to your husband and boy does that food look good! I could sure use some of that rain. I feel terrible for that poor girls family. My dad drowned and was found after 3 days. I think I aged 10 years during that fiasco.

  4. I wish we could have sent you some. It was way too much. I feel so sorry for her friends and family too. Two of the big guys tae kwon do students were friends of hers. I am so sorry t hear that your dad drowned. I can't imagine how devastating that must have been to you and your family.

  5. My son-in-law loves Indian food and has become quite a cook--as long as it's Indian! Last month we had my husband's birthday, butter chicken for dinner and I made his mother's "famous" pineapple upside-down cake--sounds like our husbands have similar tastes.

That's very sad about the young girl. It happens so quickly in hard rains, it's hard to gauge it.

    1. Thank you for visiting. I love butter chicken and pineapple upside down cake. Yes, the community is very sad but pulling together for the family. One of the reasons I love living here.
