What's top of my mind: I try to make January and February slow months. I like to spend time thinking about the last year and making plans and lists and intentions for the new one. Reflecting on the last year reminds me of the 'little things' that ended up being so important and the people that have been by my side through it all. As we go into this next chapter, I'm excited to look for small ways to bring a little excitement to each day.
Where I've been: I did go to work Thursday and Friday to make a dent on the work that piled up during my 12-day vacation. I stopped at Kroger on Thursday to pick up fresh fruit and veggies because I knew there was a storm coming today. I saw the pictures on Facebook of local stores on Saturday with the crowds and the empty shelves and was thankful I didn't have to deal with that.
Where I'm going: It looks like this storm will have us at home for at least today and tomorrow.
What I'm watching: I caught up on the latest episodes of Southern Charm. I also watched the new season of Queer Eye. Jeremiah Brent is the decorator this season. I used to watch him on Nate and Jeremiah and loved his sense of style and decorating. I think he is even more amazing now.
What I'm reading: Thanks to Treaders at Random Thoughts for letting me know her thoughts on the book Wintering. This week I picked it back up and am a little over half the way through now and really enjoying it.
What I'm eating:
Lamb and rosemary potato pies with salad
Beef and bean chili with jalapeno poppers
Steak and shrimp with baked potatoes and salad
Deconstructed taco bowls with rice
BIG salad with fresh baked bread
Roasted chicken, smashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts
Tonight, I'm making a new salmon dish that I will share next week
I'm going to try this sometime this week too. I'll let you know if it does taste like soy sauce.
Who needs a good slap: Well, I'm sure there are many, but I've been thinking about this for 10 minutes and no one comes to mind so we'll skip this week.
What is making me smile: Once again Binx. When it got light outside, he saw it snowing and got very excited. He jumped on his perch and was reaching at the door, looking at me to open it. At the time, we had only gotten about an inch of sleet/snow. I opened the sliding door, and he was excited but when his two front paws hit the snow on the step, he jumped back inside. 😀 I'm interested in how he will respond to the 9-12 inches we're supposed to get by tomorrow morning since he's never seen that much snow.
I hope everyone is easing into the New Year. If you are in the path of this storm, stay safe and warm.
We’ve already had about 15 inches dumped on us, so I’m hoping tomorrow’s storm moves south of us. Middle Child and I are making a dinner for a friend of hers at church who had a baby, so I don’t need slippery roads.
ReplyDeleteI’m intrigued with the homemade soy sauce! I’ve never seen such a recipe, just people subbing with coconut aminos. I like the idea of cutting back on the sodium content, so let me know!
That's a lot of snow! We're supposed to end up with 9-12 by tomorrow morning. How sweet of you both to make her a dinner. That is always a great gift to a new mom. I hope the storm passes you by.
DeleteI can't wait to try this one with the simple ingredients. I buy low sodium soy sauce, but it still has a lot of sodium and would like a better alternative.
I'll keep you posted. Stay warm and safe!
Sounds like you're getting the snow we just had. I think we're finally past it but you never know. Too funny about Binx.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get much snow very often so I'm fine with it. If I lived somewhere that was like this for months, I wouldn't enjoy it as much. Binx hasn't seen this much snow or the huge snowflakes we were having and he was fascinated.
DeleteOh gosh! I hope you didn't get too much snow dumped on you! Homemade soy sauce sounds interesting. Binx is too funny!
ReplyDeleteSo far, we have only had 3-4 inches, but we'll see what we get overnight. I don't think it's going to be what they originally predicted. I'm curious to see if this tastes like soy sauce. Binx is something else.
DeleteAs a product of the south, lots of snow sounds just wonderful. The codicil to the wonderment is that I have never had to shovel snow or even go anywhere in it, since an inch of snow shuts the city down.
ReplyDeletePlease share the soy sauce experiment.
We went 20 years in the south and no 'real' winter, so I really do enjoy it. Winters here aren't as long as some, so I embrace what cold and snow we do get. I will share as soon as I try it. I'm hoping it does in fact taste like soy sauce.
DeleteOh I'm glad you're starting to enjoy Wintering. It's not for everyone of course, but I find/found it very soothing!
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying it. I think the first chapter just threw me off and having just finished a 'feel good' book I wasn't ready.
DeleteI hope everything is okay with that winter storm. We have the opposite here. Temps are rising and we'll have Santa Ana winds blowing by Wednesday. So of course I'm praying that Dudley's and those local wineries are going to be okay if a wildfire breaks out.
ReplyDeleteThank you, we are good. We had snow, sleet, snow, sleet and now it is bitter cold but we'll survive. I saw on the news the Santa Ana winds were moving in. I hope everything is ok. Have a good week.
DeleteNice that you are taking the first few months of the year nice and slow. We are six days in and we have been so busy.. I just seeing my month getting busier and busier.
ReplyDeleteWe got a few inches of snow today.. nothing too bad though.
