What's top of my mind: I'm just enjoying the slower pace of winter. When it's cold, dark and dreary it's like nature is giving me full permission to just slow down and enjoy being home and relaxing a bit more. The warm weather and sunshine will be here soon enough to motivate me to get busy.
Where I've been: It was my first full week at work since before my holiday break. It was a LONG week too. Friday, we had a bit of a break from the cold, so I ran to Kroger for a few things, got gas and then took the Jeep through the carwash. It was a mess from all of the ice and snow. The undercarriage scrubbing also gave me a bit of relief from the cat incident.
Where I'm going: We are getting an Artic blast this week again, so I will probably only be at work or at home. I'm perfectly happy with that.
What I'm watching: We watched Back in Action on Netflix and it was a pretty good movie. Enough action for TBG and I do enjoy Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx. I also watched/listened to DDD and a Modern Family marathon while doing a few things in the kitchen.
What I'm reading: Yesterday I started Love, Loss and What We Ate by Padma Lakshmi. I'm not very far into it but I think I will enjoy it.
What I'm eating:
Chicken sausage with peppers and onions, baked potato and salad
BIG salad with a cheese roll up
Last Sunday, I roasted a bone in turkey breast, so I made another pot of Brunswick Stew. We had that with garlic and cheddar biscuits.
Sloppy Joe's with sweet potato fries
Roasted chicken, Brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes
LO sloppy joes with salad
I had one sheet of puff pastry in the freezer so for lunch on Saturday I made us ham and cheese with a honey mustard dipping sauce. It was so tasty.

Who needs a good slap: TBG was watching Inside Edition one afternoon and I caught a story about an Indiana pizza delivery guy. He delivered a 40.00 pizza order to someone and had to walk 1/2 a mile to deliver because their road was impassable due to snow. On his walk back he ran into a police officer that was monitoring the roads, and he was shocked to see someone had delivered a pizza. He asked if he at least got a really good tip, and the guy told him they gave him 2.00. That is a really shitty tip on a good day but add in almost a foot of snow, walking a MILE to and from his car and that is just ridiculous. The cop started a go fund me for the driver and so far, people have donated 11,000.00. First of all, I would never order a pizza during a snowstorm. and I question why they were even open putting their employees in danger, but to give such a low tip deserves 5 slaps in my opinion.
What's making me smile: I have a lot to smile about and so many small daily blessings. I never take that for granted.
I hope everyone stays warm and has a wonderful Sunday!!
That’s a crazy story! I can’t believe the delivery guy didn’t refuse to deliver it. The weather forecast is daunting this week. I have Cincinnati chili and a lemon chicken orzo soup on the menu to combat the cold temperatures.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the guy trying to walk through all of that snow was so sad. I have a few different soups and stews in the freezer along with a pan of stuffed shells so it's going to be an easy week with lots of hot winter style foods. Stay warm!!
DeleteI used to be a pizza delivery driver. I'd probably break my hand giving my own five slaps!
ReplyDeleteRight? How could anyone be so disrespectful to someone that went through so much snow and cold to get your pizza to you? Entitlement is rampant.
DeleteWell done that cop starting that Go Fund Me!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are good people out there.
DeleteI love your outlook on winter - you are so positive and upbeat. Wow, what a crappy customer and of the company sending someone out like that. Nice officer.
ReplyDeleteYour meals sound good.
Thank you Cheryl. I was shocked that they had people out delivering too. Have a great week.
Deletedaily blessings keep things in perspective and help me not focus on the negative.
ReplyDeleteYes, they really do.
DeleteOMG, on the pizza deliver. How rude of those people but that guy who delivered under those conditions is to be commended for his dedication. The cop too for his idea of the gofund me. The people who ordered that pizza need a visit from the Karma bus.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly! He was a young guy in his 20's and he took it in stride but you know that had to sting to get 2.00 and walk a mile in snow. I commend him and the cop big time.
DeleteYou have to wonder about some people, but I love the slaps!!!!
ReplyDelete2.00 is a crappy tip for delivery even in good weather.
Deletepeople can be so thoughtless. They had no trouble spending $40 on pizza- they could at least give the guy a decent tip and as you say $2 isn't even decent in good weather.
ReplyDeleteforgot to sign in above- it is Judee from Gluten Free A-Z Blog
DeleteHi Judee. I looked the story up yesterday and so far the Go Fund Me has raised 16,000. Also the fact that it was a very 'affluent' neighborhood seemed to tick people off even more. The 2.00 tip was outrageous.
DeleteWe are going through an arctic blast as well. Eldest even had a delayed opening. My kids love puff pastry. I always have some premade in the freezer that they can pop into the airfryer and take for a school lunch.
ReplyDeleteStay warm! I always like to have it in the freezer too. It has so many sweet and savory uses.
DeleteI can wrap my mind around all of it one way or another, except for the insulting two-dollar tip. Even on the loveliest day of the year, a two-dollar tip might as well be a slap in the face.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. 2.00 for a delivery tip is an insult in the best of weather.
DeleteI saw that the other day about the pizza delivery guy. Did you hear about the one where the lawn mower guy started a gofundme to help the little old lady and last I looked (within days) it's almost up to a million dollar?! Nice to read good things.
ReplyDeleteI did not hear about that one. That is awesome. It is so good to hear about people doing nice things for others instead of always negativity.
DeleteYour puff pastry ham and cheese lunch looks so wonderful! I should probably stay away from this and I have not read any other of the comments on this post, but honestly, I guess I always come back to the fact that sometimes, life is not fair. And if the young man chooses to deliver pizzas, and his employer depends upon him to deliver pizzas, and they're open, then it's his choice to keep his job and deliver the pizza! However, I read that his employer did not require him to deliver the pizza; he decided to deliver it. He didn't die. People used to walk long distances in all kinds of weather, often (most frequently) for no pay at all. Starting a cyber-funding campaign because of this strikes me as ridiculous! I don't think I am a cynical person but in the social media age it seems as if everyone is whining about something and expecting others to soothe them and make it right by showering them with money. Thirty thousand dollars for walking half a mile in the snow? Sorry -- well, no, I'm not sorry, hahaha! It's my opinion and I have a right to it. He'll be fine. Please don't hate me because I declined to jump on the bandwagon, hahaha! I am not a hardhearted person but I am a hard working person, and life has not always been fair to me and I don't expect anyone to do anything about it, hahaha. However, having been showered with cash, I hope that the young man does something constructive with it, and continues serving others, which it looks like he already does. Kudos to him for that. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI could never hate you. We all have our own outlooks on things. Yes, I did read later that his employer did not make him work but he offered to which is great. In the guy's defense, he did not complain once about the tip or the fact that he walked so far to deliver the pizza. The cop commented that I hope you got a good tip. When he responded the cop is the one that went on and on about it and set up the Go Fund Me because of his obvious work ethic and good attitude, which I don't think is ridiculous at all. Life indeed is not fair, but if others freely want to reward someone for doing the right thing, I'm all for it and I think he deserves it.
DeleteWe got 11.5 inches of snow a week ago. It took three days for the city to plow our streets, even longer for the subdivision to deal with the driveways and sidewalks. What I found interesting was similar to the situation you mentioned with the pizza man. I was sitting in my office at my desk, looking out the front window and I saw a guy walking down the middle of the street carrying a delivery box of groceries, presumably from Aldi. He delivered them a couple of houses down, then I saw him walk back up the hill. I have no idea where he parked, but I hope he got the tip he deserved, not something miserable like two dollars.
ReplyDeleteI guess with so many stores doing deliveries now they are going out in all kinds of weather. I hope he got a better tip too.
Deletewe certainly do not tip at restaurants and would never think of tipping a delivery person! it is just not part of our culture at all! But yes this sounds pretty mean not giving this fellow a few extra $ for his trouble in the snow!
ReplyDeleteYes our culture is different because unfortunately many places do not provide a decent income expecting customers to provide by tipping.
DeleteBeing able to work from home is very, very cool. Wow on that pizza guy. The puffed pastry looks gooooooood.
ReplyDeleteI tried working from home during Covid and I didn't care for it. But I know so many do. Don't you just love puffed pastry?
