Things That Make Me Smile

Fried Green Tomatoes.  I only have them once or twice a year and yesterday for lunch was one of those times.  They were delicious.

Do you enjoy them?

    1. They are popular here in the lower Midwest and in the South. I love them but only indulge once or twice a year.

  4. I've never had them but now that I've seen a picture I'm intrigued. This week I'll have three eggs left over that must be used. I'm assuming roma tomatoes would be best for their firmness and size?

    1. I love them. I use flour, egg wash and breadcrumbs or panko. Add whatever spices you like in the flour. I usually use S&P and paprika. I've never used roma tomatoes but I think they would work.

  6. I tried to make them after watching the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The movie was wonderful, my tomatoes not so much. Will have to give them another go!

    1. That's funny, I had exactly the same experience. My guess is that if you're growing tomatoes, and you get to the end of the season where you wind up with a few green ones that will never ripen, this is a way to eat them. But others swear by them.

    2. You do want to use green tomatoes, but you want to use ones that are firm but not rock hard. I am one that swears by them. lol

    1. You should try them. I slice a firm but not rock hard green tomato. Coat with flour, then egg, then panko or breadcrumbs. Sprinkle on paprika, salt and pepper and then fry. Delicious.
