Hello and Happy September. My mind is having a bit of trouble processing that there are only 4 months of the year left. Crazy!.
August was a busy month in my kitchen between the garden, dehydrating and canning but it will all pay off this Fall and Winter when I can cook with summer goodness. This is my first time doing portobello mushrooms and I can't wait to use them. I didn't grow garlic this past year like I usually do so I was thrilled when my favorite farmer had it at the market. It is delicious garlic too. I'll be planting mine for next year soon.
Of course, I've enjoyed my share of summer foods. I lost count on how many BLT's we have had. Every meal has been full of veggies and herbs. And I can't go a summer without a plate of fried green tomatoes. This is a delicious summer treat.
A new cookbook was added to my collection this month and I'm looking forward to sitting down and reading it.
Speaking of cookbooks, this is my hutch that sits between the kitchen and dining room. It is filled with all of my cookbooks. I took everything down, gave it a good clean and reorganized the books. That was a task.
For my curveball this month I have gifts that we received from Japan. The doll is for me and the painting is for the big guy. I just love them both.
This is my contribution to IMK hosted by Sherry's Kitchen. Be sure to head over to her site to see what is going on in kitchens all over the world.
Got to have BLT's and fried green tomatoes in the summer!
ReplyDeleteI love dehydrating mushrooms. I have a lot of them and use them a lot.
Nice gifts!
They are summer staples in our house too!
DeleteYour kitchen looks terrific — I love the cookbook shelf and the Japanese gifts.
ReplyDeletebest, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thank you Mae.
DeleteAin't no cooking and baking like the types done in autumn.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree!
DeleteI love those gifts as well, and the change in seasons ushers in the best cooking season of the year.
ReplyDeleteThe gifts were a nice surprise. A family from here moved to Japan last year and came back to visit this summer and brought us gifts. So sweet. I also love fall and winter cooking.
DeleteHow wonderful that will be in the winter to be enjoying things you grew in your garden. I wish I had one but it's just too much work for me.
ReplyDeleteI just had a BLT the other day. It was so good.
Love the gifts and your hutch looks great with all those cookbooks.
I did a much smaller garden than I usually do this year and accessed our farmers market for the things I didn't grow. It is a lot of work. BLT's are so delicious!!
DeleteYou grew portobellos? I’ve never heard of anyone doing that at home. The doll is precious.
ReplyDeleteNo I meant this is the first time dehydrating the mushrooms, I did not grow them. I wish I could, that would be awesome. The doll is so cute.
DeleteOne year I dried mushrooms and later used them in broth. Oh my yum! So fun. Excited to see what you think of your dried shrooms when you use them.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to add them to broths, soups, etc. this winter.
DeleteI love your cookbook collection! And it looks super clean! My mom used to make my Dad BLTs all the time. Thanks for the memories. : )
ReplyDeleteThank you Billie Jo. The two cabinets below are filled as well BLT's are a summer staple in our house.
Deleteooh I love that Japanese doll. So pretty. thanks for joining in this month. Happy September to you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting Sherry! Wishing you a good September as well.
DeleteI love the look of that cookbook as I love Indian food, but I've got so many already (haven't we all). I was slowly getting rid of them and then some "bastard" put two beautiful cookbooks in the free book exchange - so I brought them home. Some people huh!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt seems to be a really good book. It has a lot of information along with the recipes. I keep telling myself I do not need any more cookbooks but somehow they find their way here. lol How rude someone was to tempt you with more cookbooks.
DeleteSalvaging your veggies for the winter is going to add such flavor to your meals. Your Japanese gifts are lovely and that cookbook looks like one I would enjoy. The re-organized bookcase is looking good!
ReplyDeleteHi Judee. I love having a lot of herbs and veggies stored up for the winter. Aren't the gifts from Japan just awesome? It does seem like a great cookbooks. The author is the one I mentioned before that I do buy a few of her jarred sauces to have in a pinch. I need to stop buying cookbooks but I don't see that happening. lol
ReplyDeleteAlways a big job shifting books and cleaning where they sat, but what a rewarding job! Your hutch looks great. Happy September! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHappy September my friend! Moving everything off and cleaning is always a task but it has to be done. lol
DeleteLots of hard work but satisfying and rewarding job. 4 months.. I try not to do math like that.
ReplyDeleteWhen I open a jar a jam in December and get a bit of summer taste, it makes it all worth it.
DeleteLove the idea of dehydrating your own produce for use later on! Also adore your cookbook collection.. I've had a variable sized cookbook collection over the years but most of it is back home in Australia, no idea when it will migrate with me :)
ReplyDeleteI just started dehydrating a couple of years ago. Everything I've done so far has turned out wonderful. I hope you get your cookbooks back soon. Thank you for stopping by.
DeleteLove fried green tomatoes! It's been too long...
ReplyDeleteI only have them once or twice in the summer but they are delicious.
DeleteYou have good taste Lori! I love those jars in the middle. The simple lids are so attractive. I've never had fried green tomatoes. It's something I have to try. I'm looking forward to hearing about your Indian cookbook & recipes you've tried. I love Indian food! Have a wonderful day my friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Those jars are actually Oui yogurt jars. I found the lids on Amazon made for them. You really should try fried green tomatoes. They are very tasty. Indian food is in the top 5 for me. I'm excited to try a few new recipes.
ReplyDeleteYour cookbooks look very well organized, you even have room for a few more. I can't believe we are almost into fall, the busy season. I look forward to seeing your posts from the new cookbook.
ReplyDeleteHi. Thanks for stopping by. The two cabinets below are also filled with cookbooks. lol I will be sure and post when I try a few of the recipes. I started reading last night. The first chapters are all about an Indian pantry, and I'm finding that fascinating.
