Our old Food Pyramid was never correct in my opinion. Now hospitals, schools, etc. will have to start basing the meals they serve on this.
The US has a health problem, and I think this is excellent news.
RFK Jr. updated the food pyramid. See what's different for your plate.
Culinary Adventures with Lori: My personal thoughts on food...
I think it's a good thing too.
ReplyDeleteI also think it's a good thing. I follow a high protein low carb diet (most of the time anyway!) except I limit my fruit to 3/4-1 cup a day due to being diabetic.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty much how we eat also. I like fruit but it just isn't something I will reach for so I'm sure I don't eat enough of it.
DeleteIt's a step in the right direction, though I personally believe that we are too focused on protein and not enough focus on fiber.
ReplyDeleteI agree it isn't perfect but like you said, it is a big improvement over what it was before.
Deletethe news is complaining it's setting food guides back to the fifties; I was there, obesity wasn't
DeleteI hadn't heard that. But yes, even the 60-90's didn't seem to have the obesity and disease we have now. What we eat is a big part of that.
DeleteWhole foods-yes. What does concern me is the big rise of saturated fat he recommends................
ReplyDeleteIn cooking I use butter, tallow, olive oil, coconut oil, ghee or avocado oil. But everything is used in moderation. The chemicals in so many things processed is what I always avoid.
DeleteIt's a wonderful thing. It's how I lost so much weight and kept it off.
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job.
DeleteEat meat :-) I personally don't eat any processed food.
ReplyDeleteWe don't either.
DeleteWe have been pushed to eat crap, and real homemade food with ingredients is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct Kim.
DeleteUnfortunately I have never followed a very healthy diet.
ReplyDeleteWe eat whole foods because our stomach just cannot handle most processed foods.
DeleteThe foods, and I use the term loosely, that children are served in public school Is criminal. This goes back to when I was in school and we were served the most vile things. I did spend two years in private school, and the food was excellent. There were actual cooks who actually prepared food, none of it was ordered in.
ReplyDeleteI went to private school from K-8 and the food was delicious with real cooks in the kitchen making the food. I remember HS was just junk food. I am all for anything that can help make things better in our schools and hospitals where like you said, food is not even the correct word for it.
DeleteI do not cook from scratch 100% of the time, but I do most of the time. I am not going to make pasta or bread.
ReplyDeleteSame here Anne. I do enjoy making pasta and bread though.
DeleteI think not just in the US but this is a good start for all of us. Radical change for a better, healthier world.
ReplyDeleteGood point.
DeleteSOS Minnesota is under attack from ICE/Our own Gov!!! The news is not reporting schools have to close due to ICE tear gassing students, businesses are closing due to ICE dragging US citizens out and kidnapping them. They are going door to door and beating up US citizens. A 34 year old mother got shot in the face 3 times in her car from ICE and he called her a bitch while he watched her die. We need help... SOS... Get the word out!
ReplyDeleteThere is very little I agree on with RFK but I can on this.
ReplyDeletesame.
DeleteOh yeah, that pyramid as always been off to me too.
ReplyDeleteThis one is much better.
DeleteAbout to make more real food here. Some dough for the weekend. I like having it on hand in the fridge and ready to turn into something.
DeleteReal food for the win!
The whole food pyramid thing is just something I'm not interested in on the whole. I find it's driven not by actual health needs. In my opinion.
Great post and thanks for the links. We are a. nation living on processed food and thank goodness that is finally being addressed. Personally, I try to cook most of our food, but I do enjoy eating out and it's probably not that healthy even when I think I'm making good choices.
ReplyDeleteWhen over half of the items in a grocery store really shouldn't even be considered food, you know there is a problem. We enjoy eating out every now and then too for the social aspects and we try to choose wisely. For the most part, we eat 'real' food so I think we're doing better than a lot of people.
DeleteYes - it's about time this silly pyramid was changed!
ReplyDeleteAgree. Real whole foods should be the focus.
DeleteDiet is so complex and individualistic. I try not to impose my beliefs onto others but only guidelines. I am not going to eat a lot of high fat red meat as it is bad for me.
