My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind: I enjoy summer.  I love sitting outside reading.  I enjoy pool days and of course the fresh veggies and herbs.  But September thru February is where my heart is.  So, I've already started roughly thinking about all of the up-and-coming holidays.

Where I've been: I worked Tuesday thru Friday.  Stopped at the Farmers Market and had lunch at Yellin Hellen's Saturday with the big guy.  They have THE best chicken salad sandwiches.

Where I'm going: Next Saturday is Market Days at the park and we're planning on going.  One of my friends is coming over for dinner on Saturday.  That's all that's planned so far.

What I'm watching: I watched The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives on Netflix and really enjoyed it.  It's a group of women that have all been friends for the last 25 years.  I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next season that is supposed to be coming out soon.

What I'm reading: I finished The Kitchen Whisperers and really enjoyed it.  Now I'm about halfway through My Place at the Table by Lobrano.  It's a really good read as well.

What I'm listening to: I listened to the Town Hall meeting at work this week.  That was interesting to say the least.  I'm very concerned about the state of health care in the US.

What I'm eating:
Sloppy Joe's and oven fries
Fried chicken breast, red potatoes and salad
Whole roasted chicken, summer squash and green beans
Bucatini pasta with veggie and meat sauce, salad
LO Chicken with rice and pinto beans
Lamb burgers and zucchini chips

Who needs a good slap: No one comes to mind right now.

What I'm planning: Today I'm picking more herbs for drying and making another batch of basil pesto.  I have to look up the best planting days because I need to get more lettuce, carrots and radishes planted.  Other than that, it's going to be a pretty laid-back day.

What's making me smile: Every year the first week of August the paper lilies pop up overnight and are gorgeous.  They always make me smile.

Have a wonderful Sunday!!

  2. Lori, looks like you enjoyed a full busy week. I'll checkout the Netflix suggestion, your Lillies are beautiful and uplifting, and I always get a kick out of your section for "Who needs a good slap"- the title is so funny.

    1. I started doing the Weekly W's because of Spo and Robzilla. Two bloggers I follow that started doing them. Some weeks I think of dozens who need a slap and then some weeks it's like I just don't have the energy. lol

  3. Great picture of you, Lori! That sandwich does sound like it would be delicious! I'll have to look at that series you mentioned on Netflix. I'm currently watching Wentworth. Really dark but I'm drawn to it, lol. Such pretty paper lilies! What a delight to see them "popping" up. Have a great Sunday! I always like laid back weekend days :)

    1. Thanks Betty. Some days it's hard to embrace growing older but what can you do? It's a 'reality' show but I really enjoyed the way they get along. The paper lilies are even prettier in person. It's just sad that in a week they will be gone.
      Enjoy your Sunday as well!!

  5. Beautiful flowers...

How do you tell the best planting days? I would love it if you say... by the moon. :-)))))
Have you let you let your hair go natural? It is hard to tell hair color in pictures of course.

Next we want a picture of "The Big Guy!

    Gentle hugs

    1. Yes, I garden by the moon phases the way my grandparents taught me. I look up Farmer's Almanac planting days and jot down the 'best' days.
I have not colored my hair since last August so yep, all natural.
      Hope you're staying cool.

    2. By the moon!!! Yessssss!!!!

And hooray for you, for letting your hair be natural. Bet it is so much easier . ...... As to it being part of growing older, I could send you reams of pics, of ladies who have grey hair and are notttttt olllllld appearing. -smile-

But on the other hand, it is necessary for all of us, to deal with growing older, because it happens. Whether we like it or not. -smile- And to be at ease with such, is the secret to better quality of life. -smile-

And that is "Wisdom of the Ages 101", for today. LOL

    3. I've gotten a lot of compliments on my hair which really surprised me and yes it is so nice not to have to go and get it colored.
I'm doing well handling getting older. I'm just happy for each new day that I get.
Your Wisdom of the Ages 101 is always appreciated.

  10. Hi Lori, I just wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog. So here I am discovering your blog, going back to the beginning and thinking to myself "ha, I'll have to try that white chicken chili". I had to look up what great northern beans were but I reckon I'm fit to give it a shot! Cheers. Anna

  11. Those lilies really do look like paper! So pretty. I would say that although I love summer, like you my heart is thrilled with the "-ber" months, and even winter! Everything seems so much easier than when the humidity is through the roof! xoxo

    1. When I look back I have no idea how I survived in SW Florida for 20 years. Traditional Fall and Winter weather is my favorite time of year.
