I usually make the traditional style of coleslaw but a few years ago I came across this recipe and it brings a nice change to the routine summer time side dish.
Shredded cabbage red, green or both
Shredded carrots
1 diced shallot (optional)
Sauce:
4 Tablespoons mayo
2 Tablespoons lemon juice
1 Tablespoon white wine vinegar (I've also used apple cider in a pinch)
1/2 teaspoon cumin
2 Tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon favorite hot sauce
Mix the ingredients for the sauce all together in a large bowl. Add the slaw in half of the slaw and combine. Add the remainder of the slaw and combine well.
It looks pretty and sounds delicious! I've never made homemade coleslaw. Usually am lazy and buy it already prepared from the store. But I'm definitely saving this recipe to use the next time I plan coleslaw for a recipe :)

It's a good change from the original coleslaw.
DeleteOh, with carnitas-this would be incredible.DH is a purest but I'd like this twist.
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome with carnitas. We had it with bbq chicken. The big guy likes the original also but loved this one as well.
DeleteThank you I was looking for a new to me slaw recipe and this is just perfect for summer!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice change. I hope you enjoy it Kim.
DeleteCumin and hot sauce? Now that sounds like it would go great with Mexican food. This has me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteIt would be delicious with Mexican. I was thinking of fish or chicken tacos with it on top. YUM.
DeleteI make a similar one at Hallowe'en with the orange carrot and purple slaw.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea!
