Things That Make Me Smile

Came across this picture while I was clearing out my digital files.  Mel's is an awesome diner in Ft. Myers, Florida. It was one of our favorite places to eat breakfast or brunch. Mel's brought many smiles. I took this picture as we left there for the last time in 2005. Mel's is still open and going strong if you're ever in the area.

I guess as we approach our 17th year here in the Midwest I'm feeling a bit nostalgic for a place that was home for so many years.

    1. It is a lovely place.
We do not have anywhere locally to go and have a good breakfast. I miss that.

  3. It looks a lot like some of the 5 and Dime Dinners I call them here. A bit retro? I looked at the menu (I'm weird like that; hubby and me like to look at menus of restaurants here to see what is offered :) I like that Mel's is family owned! I enjoy supporting businesses like that! The selection for breakfast looks delicious and reasonable prices!! I read your comment above that you don't have any place locally where you are at that has a good breakfast. What a shame! Well, if you ever move to Phoenix you'll have so many to choose from. We read an article this morning of the 10 top breakfast restaurants here in the Phoenix area (based on customer recommendations/ratings) and we had been to six of them lol. Which probably means we ate out too much at one time :)

    1. Yes Mel's is very retro and family owned. The food and prices were both so good. You are lucky to have a good breakfast spot. We have maybe 3 places that serve breakfast. Two are chains and none are any good. We tried again this past Christmas Eve and no changes. I really miss having a good breakfast place to eat at every now and then.
      Have a great Sunday Betty!

  4. I haven't eaten in a diner in years, and with the pandemic going on I'm not sure I'll ever do it again. That place looks amazing.
