5 Favorite Pies

Pie is by far my favorite dessert. Growing up both my grandmother and Mom made delicious pies. When I moved out on my own apple and pumpkin were the first ones I made.  At that time, I used the Pillsbury pie crusts.  I don't know why, but I was intimidated by pie crust.  I finally got over that and realized just how easy pie dough really is.

A few years ago, one of my cooking challenges was to make a different pie each month for a year.  That was fun and I may do that again this year.

My top favorite pies in no particular order are...

Apple - I usually use an apple cookie cutter to make the top crust.  I didn't have a picture of one baked but it turns out really nice.

Pumpkin

Boston Cream

Coconut Cream

Cherry (this one I prefer in hand pies as they can be too much in a true slice of pie)

  1. How darn cute is that apple pie! I'm still intimidated by crusts, but will make my own for bottom only because I can hide the misshapen mess. That's why I do the crumble top Apple, but DH loves that anyway.

    1. I started doing apple pie that way years ago and it just became the way I always make it. Crumble top apple is delicious as well.

  2. Pie sounds like a great idea! I was always afraid of pie crust until the Cuisinart Food Processor instruction book gave me a way to succeed! It’s been ages since I did it, though.

    Have a good holiday week!

  3. I'm not a fan of pie at all. We were a large family and mom had her hands full (plus she hated cooking). When making pastry she just used to dump the water all in in one go and the result was damp soggy pastry - so I've hated it ever since. Not knocking her but at least she put me off pie!

    1. Yes from that description I can see why you're not a fan. Childhood trauma is real.

  8. Cherry is my favorite, and like you pie is my favorite desert always over cake, cookies, etc. I don't like to bake though so buy a frozen one and put it in the oven. Cute way to do the top of your apple pie. When you say hand pie, do you mean they're individual pies?

    1. Yes, hand pies are individual pies. You just cut a smaller circle out of the dough, add a couple of tablespoons of filling and then pinch closed. Kind of like an empanada.

  10. It has been so long since I could eat pie, because of having to live gluten free, I hardly remember. But guess I'd say Lemon Pie.

You all enjoy some pie, for me.
