My Weekly W's

What's top of my mind:  Projects.  I have a lot of personal and house projects that I want to finish by September so I'm making lists and figuring out a timeline to get them all done.  When I lived in Florida I worked for the school district and only worked 186 days a year.  I had summers off, two weeks for Christmas, Spring break and a 4-day weekend almost every month.  Summer was when I took care of all projects and after 18 years of living here I still miss summers off.  Speaking of my Florida job, as of June 1 I have officially retired from there.  I felt a bit old when that first check hit the bank at the end of the month.  My plan is to put in another 6 years at my current job before I fully retire.

Where I'm going:  We woke up to a thunderstorm yesterday morning, so we decided to do our day trip next weekend instead.  I don't care for rainy road trips.  It actually works out even better because Sunday is the big guys birthday so we can spend the weekend celebrating him.

What I'm watching:  I really didn't watch anything this week.

What I'm reading:  Ikigai-The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life.  I just started it yesterday but so far it's very interesting.

What I'm eating:
Steak, wings, baked potato, salad and garlic bread
Fried chicken, macaroni salad, deviled eggs and salad
Honey mustard ham, smashed garlic potatoes and salad
Bucatini pasta with veggies and basil pesto
Chicken fajita nachos

BLT and zucchini fries
Zucchini season is in full swing here.  A friend brought me this monster so today I'll be making a couple loaves of zucchini bread.

What's making me smile:  This bumper sticker made me smile.  Jenny I'm Having A Thought Here - I'm Having A Thought Here (jennyweber.com)  I saw this and thought of you.

I hope everyone enjoys your Sunday and has a fabulous week ahead.  For those dealing with the heat, try to stay cool.

  1. Happy retirement!!!!!!!! Trust me it is like - so much to do and so little time!!!!!! I swear I got more done when I worked. Time management I guess!!!
Zucchini coming on strong here as well - I do love it.
    Have a fantastic week.

    1. I guess I need to do an edit. I officially retired from Florida but am still working here. Zucchini becomes that veg that everyone seems to have too much quickly doesn't it?

  2. Congratulations on your retirement- or did you just mean the retirement date from Florida for your pension?

    1. I'm quite a bit south of you so our season is a bit different. Hope you have some luck. Zucchini just seems to be abundant here. Your constantly being given more. I'm sure she'll see it, she usually checks in. I wish I could find one for her.

  4. It so seldom rains here when it does drivers cease to be competent and one should say off the road at all costs.

    1. Drivers here are also incompetent regardless of the weather.

  5. It has been hot and humid during the day followed by thunderstorms at night. Then the hot humid/storm cycle begins again.
I love using bucatini, but sometimes it is hard to find here.

    1. It gets pretty hot and humid here but nothing like the south. I do not miss that at all. Bucatini used to be hard to find here but someone must have requested it and it's all being bought so our store continues to carry it.

  6. I often think how wonderful it would be to be retired. Then again, living alone, it could also be a bad thing. Congratulations on your official retirement from the Fl job. Having summers off would be wonderful.

    1. I'm the same way. It sounds like retirement would be wonderful but I don't think it would be good for me. I think I will have to at least work part time to keep some type of routine and social exposure. It was wonderful having summers off and even now I still miss it.

  7. I was a teacher and treasured having the summers off! Of course now I am fully retired and have everyday off. I need to follow your lead making a list of the projects I need to tackle. When everyday is Saturday, one tends to not always get things done. I got more done when I worked. yup- a list is what I need to do too. I'm watching "Suits" on Netflix. If you haven't already watched it, I highly recommend it. Have a good week.

    1. Hello. Yes I have to keep a list going or I never seem to get anything done. It feels good to cross items off the list. Having summer off was the best wasn't it? I have heard of Suits but haven't watched. I'll have to give that try. Wishing you a great week as well.

  8. Hi Lori~ Congratulations on your retirement! It does make you feel old to get that first check ;0) Projects always have a way of sneaking up on you, and somehow there just doesn't seem to be enough time for all of them. Your dinners always inspire me, nachos sound super good right now! Cute bumper sticker, it made me smile this morning! Have a great day! Barb

    1. Hi Barb! I didn't think it would hit me so hard when that first check hit the bank but it did. I used to be able to accomplish so much more. I don't know whether it's because I work more days now or if I'm just getting a bit slower. Wishing you a wonderful week.

  9. Happy early birthday wishes to your hubby! Hope that you have a wonderful trip to celebrate! My birthday is soon too, and dh is taking me to see Six which should be fun.
Thanks for the reminder to check my garden. I had a small zucchini a few days ago, so it may be monster size now. Oh I made your mexican roast recipe, and it was delicious! Only problem was there wasn't much leftover after the four of us enjoyed it, and I was so looking forward to leftovers.
Hope you have a wonderful week.

    1. Thank you Kathy. Happy early Birthday to you. I've heard great things about Six, it really will be fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the mexican roast that I shared. We had more left overs because there is only two of us. Wishing you a wonderful week as well.

  14. Oh so funny that bumper sticker! I actually have that PIRATE OF THE CAR-I-BE-IN in the format of a white decal that I got for my new white Cadillac, but when it came I thought it was too big and I didn't put it on my car and haven't put it anywhere yet. But I love the sentiment because of course I AM the pirate of any car I be in! Haaahaha! I do have a little white ghost (you can see his ribs) pirate decal on my back window (he is brandishing a sword) and my license plate is PIR8. So I'm covered. I agree that rainy road trips are a no-go and I know you'll have a great weekend celebrating the Big Guy! Can't wait to read all about it. xoxo

    1. I thought of no one but you when I saw this. Rainy road trips are not as much fun to me. I'm hoping this weekend is sunny. I'm looking forward to celebrating him. He's been such a wonderful husband.
